Hair advice please

I am 35 and before I go through a bit of a hair mid-life crisis I thought I'd seek advice from you all.

I have issues with the style- I've had a fringe and a bob or long bob almost my whole life save a brief stint when I was 30. When I was fringeless I thought my 11s and whole forehead area made me look too hard and went back to the trusty fringe. I feel like I have two sets of 11s rather than just one.

My hair is straight, baby fine and approx 25% grey (it was originally a dark dark brown). It's easy to dry but doesn't do anything but hang straight; even if I used curlers the curl would disappear.

I currently dye the roots at home every two weeks (I know this is bad). Eventually I think I'll go with a mix of highlights to disguise the grey (I also had highlights when I was 30 but the cost and time needed to maintain them annoyed me). I'd like to hold off until my kids are out of nursery though 😂 I'm not willing to go au naturale yet sorry!

What would you suggest for a more modern but forgiving style? Sometimes I really hate the mushroom like look of my fringe, and that I've had this hairstyle since childhood. But I don't know what else I'd suit.

I've attached 3 pics 1) current hair although it's a bit shorter now 2) my forehead up close 😬 3) my hair when I was 30 without a fringe and with highlights.

Any suggestions how I could look more modern but without my hard forehead making me look older than I am?

Honestly, I love your hair as it is and I think it suits (what I can see of) you!

I think you'd suit a short short choppy style too, will try to attach some pics :)

What's fun about these shorter styles is you can mess them up, wear them neat and tidy, do what you want - and just by changing your parting placement you can completely transform the whole look. (I miss having short hair now!!)

Similar hair (although it developed a wave in it when I got past 40).

I’ve had a a short blunt fringe and varying lengths on the rest most of my life- the only times I haven’t I’ve usually been growing out the fringe. As soon as I grow it out (or even before), I go back to the blunt fringe because it suits me best of anything.

I had a pixie a couple of times, also similar to your current style but with an undercut on one side. Have had highlights and balayage and even pink hair.

But blunt fringe with varying length of hair from bob to waist length suits me best. That’s why I keep going back to it.

Thank you both! I do think it's a style that suits my fairly square face well. I'd love to be able to pull off a pixie but I think my big square head is not dainty enough.

To be fair I have a very stylish gay friend who was constantly at me to lose the fringe. Then when I relented and got rid of it, he agreed that I was right all along 🤔. I guess the fringe is cheaper than Botox.. even with highlights when I go back to them!

Actually your hair doesn't look fine, it looks lovely but I understand how you feel - my hair is exactly the same.
Mine is curly - in an uncontrollable way most of the time - and has gradually got shorter and shorter. Now it's in a short, uneven style. I have an amazing hairdresser who knew exactly what to do and I have a long one sided fringe and it's short at the back and side. I can wear it smooth or mess it up and it's the easiest it's ever been.
I think you'd suit a pixie, your hair looks lovely and if you fancied colour you could carry some burgundy to just liven it up a bit

I think something like the 3rd picture posted, get rid of the length it will even up the face shape.
You look great with the side parting.
