Tell me all about false eyelashes

morningcuppatea · 29/07/2019 00:18

I'm stuck in a make up rut - I feel like I've been doing my makeup pretty much the same way for the last 10 years. I really fancy trying false eyelashes.

Please tell me all about them.

I have never been able to get the bloody things on properly. I wish.

Fucksandflowers · 29/07/2019 08:54

Impossible!
I got good results with the individual fake lashes once but very time consuming and fiddly.
The full strip ones are always too long for me requiring trimming then they don't sit right, ping up at the end etc.
I want to try those magnetic lashes.

morningcuppatea · 29/07/2019 10:48

I was looking on the Superdrug website and the magnetic ones don't have great reviews.

I'm not too good with fiddly things so maybe not for me sadly

Get the full lash natural looking falsies, stick them on, use an eyelash curler, then a bit of eyeliner around the join.

anitagreen · 29/07/2019 10:57

Stay away from magnetic they are crap, you want eyelashes that are quite thin on the band you can get great ones from boots the eyelur brand is good so is Ardell wispsy are really nice looking, you put the lash on first to see if you need to trim it to fit your eye that's quite fiddly but easy, if you need to trim then trim if not when you apply the go leave it for about 30 seconds to go tacky then apply, if you apply straight away it will drop off!

Wishihad · 29/07/2019 10:59

I wear strip lashes everyday take me about 30 seconds to put on per eye now I had some practise.

I have natural looking ones for work, fuller for weekend then full for nights out.

I have to trm mine but it's no a big deal, because after doing it a few times you know how much to trim.

I dont like using the free glue in them. Though I always have one of them for emergencies. I use duo lash glue and always get the cheap £1.50 per pair from savers. They last me about 7 days.

Fucksandflowers · 29/07/2019 11:16

I have used eyelure and ardell, the individuals I used I think were ardell too and I always wait for the glue to go tacky first.

Still look shit, or, look great then peel up at the edge.

The magnetics are expensive so if they get poor reviews I won't be going for them.

Maybe I'll try that lash growing serum stuff instead...

GreenPillows · 29/07/2019 11:30

Looks fab but killed my natural lashes. Proceed with caution

Ticklemeelmo · 29/07/2019 11:31

Don't bother, get well done individual (not cluster) lash extensions from a qualified technician. Way less fuss and more natural looking than strip lashes curling up at the ends

hannah9176 · 29/07/2019 11:33

I love them, they do take a bit of patience/practice in the beginning though. Depending on when you want to wear them, if you buy them from MAC they will stick them on for you when you buy them. They're about £11 a pair but can be reused.

morningcuppatea · 29/07/2019 11:35

Thanks everyone, I've just seen another thread and now wondering if I could justify lash extensions, had a look at the best local salon to me and it's £65 for LVL enhance, that's a lot of money though!

OP posts:
Ticklemeelmo · 29/07/2019 13:02

Lvl is a lash keratin treatment- not the same as lash extensions. It thickens and makes your natural lashes look longer- I'd be keen to hear how you get on with it if you go ahead (I had lash extensions for ages but never tried Lvl)

morningcuppatea · 29/07/2019 13:19

Ahh @Ticklemeelmo see I'm completely clueless about all these things! I'm not sure I'll try it as it would be a choice between eyelashes or haircut!

AuchAyeTheNo · 29/07/2019 13:21

I hate false eyelashes. I get my lashes done every 6/7 weeks now with an LVL lift. It’s like a perm for your eyelashes and they look pretty awesome. No need for mascara if a tints included.

Check your local salons

insecure123 · 29/07/2019 13:22

I used to get individual lashes on and I loved them while they were on but they absolutely destroyed my own lashes. Took ages to get them back to a decent length

AuchAyeTheNo · 29/07/2019 13:22

Just saw your other post. I don’t pay anymore than £39 for my LVL lift yet places close to me charge upto £70. Search about and you’ll find somewhere cheaper

morningcuppatea · 29/07/2019 13:30

I don't wear make up much everyday as I work in a hot and steamy kitchen so it would be nice to have lashes that look good without mascara.

I'll have a look at some other local salons prices to compare.

I toyed with various options before deciding to try eyelash serum. I use Rapidlash and have been really pleased with the results (usually pay about £25 on Amazon). My eyelashes are longer and fuller and now they're how I want them I just use the RapidLash about 3 times a week instead of every day.
Be warned though that your lashes will go back to normal if you stop using it.

higgyhog · 29/07/2019 14:29

Get some extensions! I am in my 60's and fairly low maintenance. Apart from hairdressing I had no beauty treatments, manicures etc. at all.
Having seen how eyelash extensions made a real difference to a colleague of mine I decided to try them. The effect on my appearance has been very dramatic, hard to understand really but I feel transformed, wear hardly any makeup now and look in the mirror and feel very pleased with what I see. I arranged a staff meeting for my staff recently and it was almost hi-jacked by favourable comments on the new lashes! It cost me £65 for the first set and the top ups are £35 every 3 weeks. It is so not me to have something like this done, but I am now a total convert.

SteadyAreYouReady · 29/07/2019 14:35

I used to get the individual ones but honestly I like the flexibility of temporary. I started with the beginner eylure ones and used the tweezer applicator til I could get the hang of it and used to the shape of my eyes. I never thought I’d be able to do them, but didn’t take long to get it!

MaryBoBary · 29/07/2019 14:58

I have just today for the first time ever bought some false eyelashes. I looked into getting the LVL for an event at the weekend but it was too expensive for me. I've had a practise and put them on this afternoon but need to get them closer to my lash line think so they look natural. I recon a couple more tried and I'll crack it

morningcuppatea · 29/07/2019 15:02

Which ones did you get @MaryBoBary ? Let us know how you get on and if you manage to perfect them.

happytobemrsg · 29/07/2019 16:06

The 2 times I’ve had lash extensions I LOVED them. I felt so much prettier without makeup when my lashes were done. The two ladies in my team at work have them consistently & they look fab. Expensive to keep up though.

morningcuppatea · 29/07/2019 16:36

Ok I'm definitely swayed by the lash extensions. Can anything go wrong with them?

OP posts:
higgyhog · 29/07/2019 16:48

You need to have a test to see if you are allergic to the adhesive. I am allergic to many things but fortunately this is not one of them. Some people say they are a no no with contact lenses, not 100% sure on this one.
