Help! I am 5’2 and although I am a size 8, I look big for it iykwim. Late twenties, formal office environment.

Positives

  • I have good hair/skin
  • I can walk in heels (are they necessary?)
  • I have 3 pairs of good sunglasses and one good handbag.

Thanks 😘

Not sure I’ve understood.

If you are already in Milan can you not simply observe how your most stylish colleagues dress and be guided by that?

If you are preparing to move/travel to Milan - you’re surely not proposing to buy clothes in the UK (or wherever you live) to take there? That would be a bad idea. Wait until you arrive, shop there.

Yes, currently in the UK. I’ve been to Milan twice this summer but it has been disgustingly hot so not much use for winter dressing inspiration.

Italian women tend to be quite classic - black, white, tan/brown, red, minimal prints or patterns. If you want to fit in, I'd go for tailored skirts with leather knee high boots, or those high heeled ankle shoe boot things and nice trousers. White shirts, good quality knitwear in block colours and leather gloves.

Or you could just say screw it and wear what you like! Smile

I’m sure you already know, but in case not, it’s very cold in Milan in the Winter, so get a really good, warm coat.

Sooverthemill · 28/07/2019 10:32

I would buy there. Maybe buy a coat here beforehand and just a few bits for first week or two. Is it a permanent role? So many excellent shops in Milan ( not just the super crazy priced ones!)

SilverRibbon · 28/07/2019 10:59

Thank you. Is it a damp cold or a dry cold?

I don’t necessarily want to look Milanese- which I’m obviously not- but I do always feel better when I’m dressed well.

Sits in your bones type cold, biting winds sometimes. It's not pleasant even when the temperature wouldn't suggest it being that cold. Expect to see a lot of fur, but anything wind tight is good.

I'd prioritise good quality shoes, it's a point of national pride over there so it's one of the first things they see. Ditto bags and tailoring. Buy there as it's substantially cheaper.

There are a good few outlet villages around Milan, I'd buy my fill there and height should be less of an issue there but if you really need petite clothing then you're probably better of buying in the UK.

I would buy most of your clothes there. Mid range is better quality than ours and better prices. More interesting choices
