Smelly dress

Just bought this online in sale.

Looked very flattering. I tried it on when I had showered and not used deodorant because of possible marks. I literally had it on for a couple of minutes

The armpits reeked of BO. My thinking is someone has tried it on or even worn it. I was really paranoid- could I stink in that short time but unlikely as used soap etc. It was sealed in a bag

Do you think I should try washing it and soaking it or ask for a refund. It's sold out

Thanks

Let me guess, you bought it in Next. This has happened to me several times with stuff I have bought from them.

If I thought someone had sweated in to an article of clothing I wouldn't want it. And unless the fabric is natural it might not wash out.

Someone recently suggested a product called Halo for making smelly sports wear smell fresh again. I tried it and it’s been great for that and also for keeping DDs manmade work clothes (which can get niffy) smelling fresh if you really like the dress try washing it in that. I bought it on Amazon.

Wash the dress with a capful of diluted Zoflora, assuming it isn't a fragile material. It will kill the bacteria in the underarms (assuming you still want the dress!)

Urgh. My friend once wanted a dress she had seen in house of Fraser but didn’t have her size.
Week or so later she was in there again and they had her size. She tried it on and on the inside lower part of the dress was some very suspicious white deposits.
On further inspection of the dress it was assumed it had been worn and returned for a refund Envy -not envy!

If you love the dress I'd keep it (obviously wash it). However, I'd ring customer service beforehand and let them know (it'll help their operations to ensure it doesn't happen again) but I'd also request a 'goodwill' gesture!

Doobigetta · 27/07/2019 15:24

I wouldn’t risk attempting to wash it out in case you ruin it and then can’t get a refund, I’d just take it back. Also, things that you’ve made smelly yourself may be recoverable but I would not want to wear someone else’s sweaty cast-off.

When I've had clothes like that from eBay I've sprayed the armpits with a dettol aerosol and left for a while before washing. It has completely killed the smell without damaging the fabric. Hope you get it sorted Smile

I showed dh. I was so paranoid about it being me but I don't think I have ever had that stronger stink after wearing something in all honesty

If you want to keep it, spray the smelly armpits with white vinegar and leave for a couple of hours then wash with bio powder.

woodhill · 29/07/2019 12:56

I took it back
