Help! Face wash makes my face itchy

I’ve been using Cetaphil and after doing so my face is mildly itchy. I have very sensitive skin and I just don’t know what to use. My skin hates perfumed stuff and I’ve tried Simple with no luck either. Please could anyone suggest a perfume and colour free gentle moisturiser that I can use? Sls free also would be a bonus!

One of those Konjac sponges ?

I bought the grey (charcole) one for my DS , he uses it with the Carbon Therapy soap.

I use a buff coloured one , sometimes with a cleanser but often just on its own.
Hang it up to dry (it has a loop) and it lasts months .

The same happened to me in my 40s so I started using oil and a hot flannel. You can use something as plain as olive or sweet almond oil or there are plenty of posh branded cleansing oils if you want something fancy.

I tried oil cleansing and came out with massive boils on my face.

Konjac sponge might be ok but I don’t know what cleanser is ok to use with it for me.

I also have sensitive skin that gets itchy/ tight with wrong cleanser. Sounds like it's drying out your skin, I had thst problem with the Simple one too.

Roche-Posay Toleraine Dermo Cleanser is great for sensitive skin and quite cheap. I also really like Dr Sam's Flawless Cleanser but it's a bit more expensive. I've also heard good things about the CeraVe cleanser but not tried it myself.

Oh and the Superdrug hot cloth cleanser is supposed to be good too although I don't use it, as I have a bit of rosecea so don't use face cloths at all.

My dermatologist recommended Avene tolerance and I’ve never gone back. You can even wipe it off rather than rinse if your skin reacts to water. I love it.

I am sensitive to almost everything I have tried including all so called hypoallergenic stuff

The only thing that has not made my face react is Badger Balm cleansing oil, though Is know you have said oil irritates you

Lush ultra bland is a cleanser for sensitive skin

dollybooo · 27/07/2019 01:27

I second avene products like another poster just advised.

Also this ... Bioderma range sold in Boots. I'm on my 3rd bottle of this cleanser & they do different ranges & a fab moisturiser balm.
It leaves my skin lovely : ) sometimes Boots does it in 3 for 2 also.

I use this one as facial moisturiser.....

It's made for sensitive skins & it's perfume free.

Eucerin products worked wonders for me when everything else was making me itchy and irritated and dry

Richlyfruited · 27/07/2019 07:36

Cetaphil also gave me really itchy, blotchy skin so I don't think it can be that suited for sensitive skin Confused

I use Simple foaming cleanser with a soft muslin and wash off with tepid water. Makes a real difference if the water isn't too warm.

Avene thermale water spray is lovely to calm your skin if it's feeling tight and itchy after cleansing.

yellowsun · 27/07/2019 07:42

I think cetaphil has SLS in it which may be drying out your skin. I would try the avenue or la Roche possAy cleaners for sensitive skin.

ChrisPriss · 27/07/2019 07:45

Boots (own brand) fragrance free face wash is the only face wash my sensitive skin will tolerate - and it's cheap.

Tingface · 27/07/2019 07:49

Just water??

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 27/07/2019 07:53

I like La Roche Posay Toleraine, Lush Ultrabalm, and Avene Tolerance Extreme cleansers. They are all very gentle, non-cleansing, non-fragranced.

For taking off make up I would try the Clinique Take The Day Off balm, or the Simple oil cleanser.

DD has sensitive skin and the only thing that doesn't make her break out is Dove bar
