What do you do?

Weirdly enough I did this today! I cleaned all of my brushes and the thing (a makeup organiser thing) and then my makeup. I got a bowl with hot soapy water in and got the cloth and wiped it all over. The cloth was quite dry. And then I used a magic cloth to dry it all and put it all back.

Funny old world.

I don't clean make up, but I wash brushes in baby shampoo once a week or so.

PaneerOfEvil · 26/07/2019 20:20

Great timing Don! So when you say you wipe, eg if you had a solid blush, do you wipe over the product bit or just the case? I know that’s such a bit of a stupid question I just don’t know what you’re supposed to do! I do clean my brushes though.

I don’t clean makeup ever. If it got so manky it needed cleaning I think I’d bin it but it never does. And I know that we are told brushes should be cleaned often but I don’t do that either. I have done in the past but the brushes were never as nice afterwards. The most I do is wipe them or brush them on a clean muslin to clear excess product. It’s only me who uses them so I’m not concerned about cross contamination. I very seldom get spots or flare ups so it doesn’t seem to be doing me any harm.

Sittinonthefloor · 26/07/2019 20:42

It has never occurred to me to clean make up. I use mascara fast enough that it runs out before it’s manky, tinted moisturiser- can’t really clean and the rest is dry powdery stuff. Lipstick - only I use it, I don’t gaf. Brushes get a bit of dry powder on them and my clean face, how could they get dirty.

I think you’re better not to wipe the actual blusher/eyeshadow etc as by making it damp you’re introducing a better environment for bacteria to grow in. Just wash your brushes in hot soapy water.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 26/07/2019 20:46

I’ve never cleaned my makeup, do you mean the actual product like the powder in a blusher or the compact? I use a baby wipe on the compact/packaging if it’s getting grubby but I never clean the actual product

PaneerOfEvil · 26/07/2019 20:54

Thanks all, yes I wasn’t sure whether it was something I should be doing. Seems I’m ok!

I put my blusher brush into a cup of micellar water then rinse and dry every now and again. I think its better to have a small number of products which get frequent use than stuff sitting in drawers lasting a few years.

PixieLumos · 26/07/2019 21:17

Clean my make-up? Didn’t know I was supposed to and wouldn’t know where to begin this. Obviously I clean the brushes once in blue moon when I remember/can be bothered--

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/07/2019 21:42

I wash all my brushes every weekend, and usually do the foundation brush midweek too - I have two of those so one in use, one drying. I had no idea washing actual makeup was a thing!

Onelankwen · 26/07/2019 23:09

I'm a certified make-up artist. I clean my brushes after every use with a brush cleaner. When I get home I wash them with baby shampoo. I also disinfect my lipbrushes and tweezers with alcohol.
You can "clean" make up by spraying a fine mist of disinfecting alcohol over them and then let it dry.

LifeofClimb · 27/07/2019 09:26

Rubbing alcohol or slicing the very end off lipstick. Using a sharpener on pencils (eye, lip, brow).
I have bought second hand before so I clean it before using! Usually powders only!
I would only clean make up if I used it when ill - a bad bug or something.

DonPablo · 27/07/2019 10:43

Oh, I misunderstood. I didn't clean the actual makeup, just the cases! Somehow they all get foundation all over them, I've never considered cleaning the actual makeup, surely it would ruin it?
