Anyone else seen this in the media today? Can't do links but the few pieces I saw looked really good.

OP posts:

Gen x are not boomers, however I do expect the media/press to convince us that we really ARE boomers, having had the same access to financial growth, rising wages, social services, free uni education and affordable mortgages/rents which a one person wage can maintain.

Yes, river island I am a fucking 45 yr old boomer only via inheriting what my postwar parents left me in their will.

You won’t be able to convince me to keep circling the dystopian cloned version of my depressing suburban shopping arcade in expectation that anything other than cheaply knocked up tat will materialise.

ReturnofSaturn · 27/07/2019 11:12

Harpic?

ReturnofSaturn · 27/07/2019 11:13

What the fuck is that red and black stripy jumper all about!!?

AuntieStella · 27/07/2019 11:15

What an utterly appalling concept.

I shall definitely swerve stores that think casual ageism is a positive thing. I am surprised that something so very limited and stereotypical got through to roll-out.

youllhavehadyourtea · 27/07/2019 11:20

Nothing there you wouldnt already see in Wallis.

31RueCambon · 27/07/2019 11:31

I hope the materials used are better. Wallis and Oasis clothes can look OK on line but then you touch them. I've made the mistake of ordering a few Oasis tops on line and then when they arrive I think oh my god this cannot touch my skin.

How can people wear that sweaty slippery cold material.

31RueCambon · 27/07/2019 11:36

Lol at Harpie being a better name! I agree!

I think this gap has existed for years and it is there for the taking if somebody can do it well.

I'd love a cheaper Whistles and a cheaper Jigsaw. A less trendy River Island. Oasis with better fabrics. Cos with slightly less voluminous and lengthy tunics. All of these wishes can meet in the middle somewhere!!! In osme parallel universe if we (I say we, I'm 49, I spend money on clothes) Please somebody do it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2019 12:20

Oasis really depresses me. I really like some of their prints, but the fabrics are abominable.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 27/07/2019 12:37

Closer investigation of the red and black.....erm....,thing, has revealed zips on the shoulder to sleeve seam🤮.

So as well as being prickly and itchy it now has zips which will irritate the hell out or anyone’s shoulders.

My degree was in design. That thing has far too many things going on to be good design

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 27/07/2019 12:38

Dear God that red thing is scarring my eyes

rosiepony · 27/07/2019 12:44

Rank.
I bet the brief was Loose Women on a budget.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 27/07/2019 12:58

ReturnofSaturn.
What the fuck is that red and black stripy jumper all about!!?

I think it’s meant to be ‘edgy’😂

goose1964 · 27/07/2019 13:26

I actually love the red frilly top. I have a fab cleavage, still, and it will detract from my face.

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/07/2019 13:28

Haha, yes, Loose Women on a budget.
I can picture Denise Welsh wearing some of those monstrosities

Pagwatch · 27/07/2019 13:43

Jesus Christ - that black and red jumper!

A couple of the coats look ok but the rest is really grim.

31RueCambon · 27/07/2019 13:48

@TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince you have a degree in design?! Please start a brand to meet this unmet gap!

CarolDanvers · 27/07/2019 14:00

It looks like generic market stall clothing or like the clothing you find in those those cheap unbranded clothes shops. Which is fine but it's am guessing it will be retailing for considerably more. That black ribbed jumper with the weird metal fussy detail on the shoulder looks like you wouldn't even get one wash out it before it stretched out of shape. Just hideous.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 27/07/2019 16:00

That black and red monstrosity is very "Cruella de Vil", despite being nothing like what she's depicted as wearing.
Needs harsh scarlet lippy and brassy blonde hair and 5" spike heeled boots. It's not anything that you would catch me dead in outside of a fancy dress party.

And as previous posters have said - just because we're over 40, doesn't mean we can't pick our own style thanks - we don't need this kind of shit in our lives.

TheFairyCaravan · 27/07/2019 16:10

There's nothing nice about any of that. It looks like they've gone into Primark, after closing during the sales, swept the floor and taken photos of what they found.

Zenithbear · 27/07/2019 18:37

Dreadful. Nothing for me there. I'll just manage to buy things that look good on my own thanks.

Unburnished · 27/07/2019 20:08

Erm no. I wont be wearing any of that. It looks a bit trashy and flamable. Far too much leopard print and ‘splashy’ colours and everything looks like its been sprayed on the model.

Can anyone see a difference between this and their current offering?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 27/07/2019 21:01

Natural fabric
Pockets
At least a tiny bit of thought given to purpose (ie, workwear hasn’t got cut-outs, raincoats are actually waterproof etc
Fashionable

That’s it. That’s all I want.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2019 21:10

I don't even care if things are fashionable. My requirements are:
Decent fabrics
Sizes consistent across the shop
Mostly black, white or grey with a couple of good colours to break things up a bit
Not make me look or feel like a twat

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2019 21:11

And yes re purpose

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 28/07/2019 04:52

For me clothes need to be:
• fit for purpose (including pockets!)
• comfortable
• not too tight/clingy so all the lumpy bits are discreetly glossed over
• pref natural fabrics
• something that will stand the test of time.

That's it, really. I don't like cut out bits, extraneous pointless bits (laces that don't actually DO anything, ditto zips, buttons etc), gathers where none are needed (up the side of legs, for e.g.)

Just straightforward comfortable clothes.
