Curly Girl newbie - what products?

After years of battling with my fluffy/frizzy/curls I'm going to give the CG method a go. What products would experienced curly girlers recommend for me? Having googled CGM I think I'm in the Wavy category. Thank you!

It's now not recommended (on the FB groups anyway) but I use a low-poo (one of the new Johnson's baby shampoos), and I have a couple of different conditioners - the superdrug extracts aloe Vera and mango one is fab (and cheap!) I love Umberto giannini curl jelly which I scrunch in and a shockwaves volume moose and diffuse. I use a t-shirt to scrunch out the crunch. Be careful with a lot of recommended products (e.g cantu) they can be lovely but it's really easy to weigh down wavy hair with products designed for afro/very tight curls if your hair isn't that dry. Be warned there is a transition period where my hair looked terrible at times but I love the curls now!

Curlsbot website is great for copying and pasting ingredients into to see if products are approved/curly girl safe x

I'm very much wavy rather than curly, after hours of research and a few product tests I now use as I am cowash, shea moisture as a leave in, superdrug extracts conditioners, mainly because they come in travel size too so good for trips/nights away! And vo5 gel (also available in travel size!) and cantu curl spray for after my hair is dry if it needs a boost.

Some days I cowash, leave in conditioner then gel, others I use extracts conditioner only then gel, others I cowash, leave in conditioner then gel. I just judge what my hair needs.

I think the prcoess is as important as products, the 'squish to condish' and 'plopping' in the tshirt or microfibre head towel, never touching until it's dry etc. I had also been sls/paraben free for years so think my hair adapted easily to the lack of actual shampoo and I have a very casual dress code job so arriving with wet her and having hair that I felt looked a messat the start wasn't really a problem for me. The gel took a while to get my head around but it works so much better than mousse for me. It's such a learning curve!

I like the Tesco extracts conditioner and their blue gel with shockwaves mousse.

boucleme is fantastic. skip the curl creme at first if you are wavy but the gel, conditioner and cleanser are all excellent products

OakElmAsh · 26/07/2019 12:54

the Cantu range work great for me

Conditioner

Coconut Curling Cream

Now my hair is proper curly, so the curling cream might be a bit too much, or maybe you would just use only a litte product
