Help me - short woman with no style sense

I'm 5 foot, hourglass figure size 12/14 I usually have the style if you're average potato.

Some questions

Can someone my height ever look ok in a long skirt? I try them in and feel like I'm dressing up in my mum's clothes like a child.

Are maxi dresses a big no no?

Jump shots? How does one with my stature pull one off of at all?

There's no easy way of saying this so please forgive me, but the issue is not your height, but your weight. It's a good thing really, as there's nothing you can do about your height, but plenty you can do about your weight. I say this as a short potato myself. I am nearly a stone overweight and nothing looks right, but when I'm slimmer, honestly I look good in a lot of things and I don't even think about my height. For what it's worth at the moment I am wearing maxi dresses from Hush and I look okay in them.

I'm not offended, you're right. It is my weight. I have lost quite a lot already but a chronic health condition makes it a bit harder than usual, I'm getting there though. I was more hoping for something to wear that's easy to throw on and will keep me cooler until I get there.
Thanks for the reply though. Smile

I think maxi dresses could work. Go for very unfussy ones that are cut to flatter your best features.

Try linen peg trousers (M&S do them for under £20. I think Next do too) roleed just above the ankles with wedge sandals and tops cut to flatter your shape - not too smock-like.

I'm just over 5ft and a 10/12 and would never wear anything that fell below the knee in terms of skirts/dresses. Usually a case of the shorter the better if you can get away with it.

Having said that if you could get a maxi dress that fell just right it might be alright (but that's usually an impossible mission when we are short isnt it?).

Having an hourglass figure is handy but really only when you are a side 10 or under at our height, otherwise it can complicate things by making it hard to find stuff that looks...right. As we just end up looking dumpy.

Jumpsuits did you mean? I find being boobie that a lot of jumpsuits seem to fall odd at the waste (they tend to have a elastic bit round the middle that just doesn't sit right on short, booby people) but if you can find one without that you should be fine.

Basically long skirts wont look right as they will cut your body in half buy maxi dresses and jumpsuits will be fine if they are all the same colour the whole way down (and if you can find ones that sit right and a re short enough for you lol).

I don't think your weight is the issue. I think it is hard for those who are of a shorter stature to pull off midi/maxi styles. I love midi length clothes, but I am 5'9" so luckily for me the easy to buy items suit me at the moment! I would go for more knee length dresses

I'm 5ft but reasonably slim although battling tummy rolls (still a size 10 but largely because of my height I think) and regularly wear midi/maxi length skirts and dresses. I think the trick is keep the outline pared down - fit and flare or bias cut works best and I avoid anything A-line. If wearing a long skirt I try to keep the outline on the top half simple straight up and down.

I’m 5’1 and size 14 and so happy about all the midi dresses that are around at the moment, the perfect length for me as maxis trail the floor. I’ve got midi dresses from Monki, Fat Face, Boden, Warehouse and Gap and midi skirts from Gap and M&S that I wear with t shirts from Hush.
