Is it ‘normal’ now to have had some kind of work done?

Just back from holiday- family resort- UK focussed, premium hotel/resort- everyone with young kids
I’m not exaggerating when I say probably 25% of women had massive fake boobs- out of proportion to body in style Vic beck early days, and then the reeeeeeally obvious lips- probably 30% again not a little help but think Lesley ash when it all went wrong.
There were then more with more subtle work, and a lot of Botox from scary to v neat,
A mix of ages
But it really got me thinking - we are fortunate, and have holidays a lot over last few years and every trip it’s more and more prevalent in the level of all kinds of ‘work’ visible
In balance also more people of all shapes and sizes just carrying on in bikinis with their kids, but I was just so surprised at how obvious it all was- DH even commented
So is this pretty typical now? Does this fit with your friend group?
I’d say for me I know of a few boob jobs, all bar one pretty subtle, and all bar 1 cosmetic not health.
Lip fillers only 1, pretty massive now...
Botox- growing number...
But actually most, say 90% nothing and pretty certain never would
Just musing really. Am I weird for not seriously considering it when I have some significant hang ups (I’m small but awful skin stretch marks and post operation scar damage to stomachs) I guess I’d just assumed I wasn’t ‘someone who would ever look good like that now.

I’m 61, just had a breast reduction for comfort. I have 2 other friends (same age) also awaiting surgery. Cosmetic results though are not the primary reason. Being in my 60’s I’m probably invisible anyway.

I was watching TV this morning and one of the interviees had so much work done the only part of her face that moved was her mouth.so she had no wrinkles but it looked odd

Eustasiavye · 01/08/2019 19:16

I would have thought it was more popular to want small breasts now with a slim body, but I'm no expert.
I know 3 women who have had a breast enlargement. Non of them look unnatural. I know one woman who had a breast reduction due to health reasons.
A couple of women in their 40s have had botox who I see in my gym.
2 of dds friends have had lip fillers, neither of them have small lips so I think fashion is a major influence there.
Far more women have their nails/lashes/eyebrows done than when my mum was a young woman.
I think the false look began around the time Katie price became famous.
Now it's pretty normal for young women to look fake, however it seems these young women often wear flat shoes and more practical clothing than women did in the 60s and 70s.

Not noticed anyone whose had work done - maybe I go on hols to different places!
I know someone who has had a breast reduction but that's generally more for health and comfort.

Plus surely if you can see that someone has had botox it hasn't been done well??

Pinkvici22 · 01/08/2019 22:03

I think it is becoming the norm. In my friendship group/work colleagues I’d say a few have had boob jobs, 1 tummy tuck, quite a few lip fillers, some microblading etc and a LOT of Botox. I haven’t had anything done...my views fluctuate as to whether I ever would or not.

sayalittlerayer · 01/08/2019 22:23

My concern is that the more people who have work done make the people who haven't had work done feel so much more old, haggard and less attractive as having all the fillers , Botox and whatever else (if it's done good) make the average normal look for say a 45 year old look older than someone the same age that's had the work done.
But I can honestly say at 45 and although I'm going through that oh my god things are changing stage I'm still not contemplating cosmetic work, it fills me with dread to think what a nip or tuck here and there would leave me looking like when I'm older. I just couldn't bear that false look, but yes I would obviously like to look a bit younger (although people do say I look younger than I am) I don't believe them, cosmetic surgery on my face scares the life out of me, what if it all went wrong and what if the bit I did have done looked completely out of sync with the rest of my face, then I'd need the next bit done etc etc then there's no doubt I would look like a freak.
So for now I'm staying as I am thank you

I have botox.
Haven't had it for ages though and will have a top up after the summer break.
People who haven't had botox find it hard to believe that you cannot detect the good work.
I have been having it for 4 years and not even my DH knows. He will look and say something like
Is that a new coat? Did you have your hair done? Grin
He can see I look better but can't place why. You literally look more rested, I still have full movement when I have mine. I look relaxed and less angry as my 11s are pronounced.

I am however thinking of branching out and having fillers under my eyes as they are so hollow and dark.

I have toyed with the idea of microblading too but I'm still not convinced.

I really dislike the lip filler permanent tan look as it happens.

HeronLanyon · 02/08/2019 00:54

Of my friends and work colleagues only one has had anything obvious done - lip fillers - and very recently. i was shocked as it looks pretty awful and she was the last person I’d expect to do this to herself. It’s really not the norm amongst those I know. When I notice it it’s generally because it looks odd and just sad.

I don't think it's the norm among the (mostly 40-something) people I know - one friend had Botox once for her wedding I think, but afaik has not had it since, and pretty certain none if the rest of my friends would get anything done. I don't think any of the parents I see at the school gates have had anything done either.

But I have noticed an increase in the number of younger women who appear to have had lip fillers etc however they are still very much in the minority.
