So following on from a post here I have bought prescription retinol - 0.025%. so what do I do now?! Do I put a tiny amount over my whole face? How many times a week? Do I put moisturiser on before or after?

Watching with interest!

I have been useing it for two years now, start off slowly once or twice a week at first, a pea size all over the face, avoiding the the eyes, then leave it a little bit then moisturise.

How long does it take to make a difference? I’ve been using it for a month and have not noticed any change at all. Does it work on spots?

lindyloo57 · 24/07/2019 18:59

It can months, it's not a quick fix.

Madmoggie · 24/07/2019 19:06

Oh no! Thanks lindyloo

If you’ve ever had bad sunburn on your face, avoid those areas with the cream, otherwise it’ll burn like billio (I’m on a 0.1% for cystic acne).

It takes 28 days for skin cells to renew, after that time I find my skin is less tired looking, pores are reduced in size, and generic the skin looks healthier. My acne issues are along the jawbone, so that’s where I mainly put the cream, if I moisturise little bits of dry skin come away, but nothing noticeable. My dermatologist advised keeping the rest of my skincare very simple when using retinol. Make sure you’re using sunblock in this heat!!!

Dr sam bunting on yt has some great advice on how to start on a retin A programme. I think it’s worth watching.

Thanks @CoconutAmericano. The video was really helpful. Haven't heard of her before.

@Orangesandlemons82 where did you buy this? Did you go to a dermatologist? How did you know the strength that was right for you? Thanks

Orangesandlemons82 · 25/07/2019 14:13

@stayfit there was another thread recently that said you can buy from European pharmacies online. The trade names of the retinol you can get are Retrides and Tretinoin. I have never used it before so was advised on here that you need to start at the lowest prescription strength which is 0.025% . I will have a look and see if I can find the website I used.
