Dry scalp help!

SheStoodInTheStorm · 21/07/2019 09:07

I have a really dry scalp. If I scratch it there are loads of white flakes. From what I've read it's not dandruff as that's yellowy. My hair gets oily/greasy very quickly but my scalp is dry?!

I don't use products on my hair and my shampoo is SLS free as that makes me itch.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It's really getting me down. When I put my hair up the white flakes are obvious.

Are you rinsing properly ? It could be residue .

Try a cider vinegar in water pre-treat then rinse .

My scalp gets really scabby when I'm stressed (thank you hereditary psoriasis ) but I know the cause and it sorts itself out .

My scalp cannot tolerate any baby products or coconut oil.
Trial and error

my scalp is shit. the best thing for me, despite wishing for a more natural remedy is the pink shampoo, nizoral, from OTC.

Something that has helped me get rid of my yellow flakes is something I found online somewhere while trying out things - mixing a handful or two of granulated sugar with some oil (I use sweet almond oil as I had it to hand, but any skin-safe one should work), use it to exfoliate the scalp, rinse out and then shampoo and condition as usual. It's a bit of a pain, but this has worked like magic in getting rid of the flakiness and patches.

Now if only I could get the frizziness dealt with, sometimes I swear just sitting still makes my hair poofs and flakes out like I've never brushed or washed it and walked through a windstorm.

Mix some seasalt with your shampoo.

Is it just flakes or does it itch and burn as well? Lots of skin conditions. Some can be treated by gp.

Try a coal tar shampoo and don't get conditioner etc on your scalp. You have mg sympathy. It's miserable.

I second coal tar shampoo, I have found alphosyl to work best for me. I get flare ups when stressed or busy. It has built in conditioner which makes it much softer than other similar shampoos. You use it twice a week for 4 weeks. Make sure your shampoo in between is mild or unperfumed. I have switched to Lavera Basis Sensitive which doesn't irritate. Good luck!

You have my sympathy! Tried it all, but nizoral is the one that clears it up. My scalp can be good for periods of time, but reacts to stress and some products too.
