Which dress shape, if any, with pics

I’m 5’2, dumpy and need new sun dresses for ambling about in, on holiday. Shirts and a vest- shorter shorts- are ok, as legs aren’t too bad, but I like a dress to feel a bit less trussed up, on trips out. And also I’m awful with heat and get hot and sticky very easily. Not nice. I’ve ordered 3 shape to try - are any better/ worse? I’m 14 and big of tummy and hip. Thank you lovely lot. I’m also struggling to get anything too structured on (post dislocated shoulder) so need a bit of give or wide neckline if open - though I’m getting better at hanging upside down and feeding clothes into my straightened arms. Bras still impossible but by holiday I hope to be back in a non stretch one. Grin

I'm on holiday at the moment and every single woman over 40 seems to have at least one version of that next dress - myself included.

Ninkaninus · 20/07/2019 14:38

The middle one is lovely, I like the pattern and it looks great on you. I’d definitely wear it. It’s comfortable but doesn’t look dumpy, which the first one does.

I think the third one looks best on you, it flatters your shape

StCharlotte · 20/07/2019 14:41

I think a skater shape would suit your figure.

StCharlotte · 20/07/2019 14:43

Sorry, posted too soon. This sort of thing.

I dislike the first, but the other too look fine. It depends on the fabric for the third though - if polyester, I'd say send it back. I like the shape of the Next one but am not so fond of the print, which looks a bit deckchair-ish.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/07/2019 15:30

two

Sold as a midi, but a perfect maxi length for 5ft2" (my height too) is this Zara dress. If I wore green, I would absolutely buy this, I love the shape and the pattern, just that green doesn't suit me at all unfornately. I think it's could be a very flattering cut for shapely women (I'm very curvy too).

I also have a spotty Zara dress, that comes almost to a maxi on me, but is sold as a midi - it's the bane of my life trying to find midi lengths on my short-arse frame! I bought a great linen dress in the Zara sale that's definately midi length on me, but it's no longer on their website unfortunately.

Ninkaninus · 20/07/2019 15:46

I would check Jigsaw, Jaeger, Toast, Whistles. They have sales on atm.

This sort of thing.. size up and it will be looser across your tummy.. I have the Asda dress and it's lovely .

Oblomov19 · 20/07/2019 16:11

Middle one

beanaseireann · 20/07/2019 16:18

The middle one is lovely. I really dislike the first one on you. The third one is just about ok.

TooMuch87 · 20/07/2019 16:24

I think the third one is the most flattering shape on you by a mile. I’d just add a belt to give you more of a waist.

youllhavehadyourtea · 20/07/2019 16:28

The middle one looks lovely on you.

And it looks crisp and cool too.

IsolaPribby · 20/07/2019 16:31

I'm going to disagree with some. I think that 2 and 3 are both too big on the hips for you. 1 skims them nicely, but is wrong in every other respect. It's too long for a start, you need to be showing off those legs.

I think you have a cracking figure and can do better than any of these.

Redcrayons · 20/07/2019 16:34

the second and third look nice, but the second one is a bit more 'holidayish'.

The first one isn't horrific, but it's a bit frumpy on you.

Iamthewombat · 20/07/2019 16:34

I don’t really like any of them but the third isa better shape. The second looks like a pillowcase.

The Boden jersey dress and the second fat face one are better. A bit of length (despite your legs being good) is helpful if you are petite because it stops you looking like a square.

I don’t think thin straps look good on most people: if you carry a bit of weight up top or have a decent cleavage, the small straps seem to magnify the size of everything else. Better to have a vest-type top with thicker straps, like the Boden and Fat Face dresses.

(I have long thin arms and wide shoulders and I look bloody awful in thin strapped tops, like a linebacker, or something. So I am naturally antagonistic to that type of garment).
