Would a box dye do this?.....

I'm considering lightening my hair. However I am trying to look after it also, wanting to grow it. It's not in too bad a condition, a bit dry as I use to colour it a lot but haven't done so for around 4 months now.

At the moment my hair is like a light coppery brown. I'm naturally auburn so this is as close to my natural colour I guess. There's a slight shade difference at my roots, they look slightly darker/cooler, probably some grey. The only thing I've been using is colour shampoo, although I suspect that's all washed out now.

I'd like to achieve the 'strawberry blonde' like colour in the pic, the other coppery brown is what I have now. (I used an app to change the colour!) I'm wondering if there's a box dye I could use that will lift my hair to that colour? Or would it have to be highlights/bleach job, in which case I'd probably not do it as it would wreck my hair. A semi would be ideal, but I know there's no chance of a semi lifting that much.

Another option could be a bleach bath, again at the hairdressers, not as harsh as actual bleaching or highlighting but then again, would probably need a tint over the top anyway.

I could just leave well alone. But sometimes my hair looks a bit 'brassy' or 'orangey' and I really want to do something with it!

Colour doesnt lift colour.

You need a hair stripper or bleach

Thanks for your replies.

MissPolly - I've had a quick read into the No Bleach kit & it looks as if it's only for virgin hair, my hair has been previously coloured/lightened before so maybe wouldn't work, otherwise it sounded ideal!

WBWIFE - yeah, I just thought if there was any super strength box dyes that would possibly do it. I did use the Schwarzkopf colour expert lightening one before to get it to lighten to what it is now from darkish brown, but obviously it has bleach in. I fear if I was to use that again, my hair would go really dry or break. Or go yellow!

It looks like I'm just going to have to put up with the colour I am for now, until my hair is in better condition anyway, then maybe when I can afford to perhaps go the the hairdressers.

I prefer your colour as it is now. My natural colour is the same as yours but goes lighter like the second pic in the sun every summer and I dye it back!

Op I used normal box dye and slowly turned my hair from brown to blonde. I'll add pic

Aren't box dyes supposed to be able to lift colour by two levels?
Eg if you're a level 5 brown it can get you to a level 7 blonde.

More than 2 levels and you need bleach?

I've also heard hairdressers talking about high lift tints.
Perhaps they can do more levels than two...
