Yes. But don’t spend more than you are comfortable with as hair grows bloody fast.

Lardlizard · 10/07/2019 17:58

Yes that is true

Yes and no. I think if you have easy hair and don't need anything remotely complicated done (so, say, a trim and an all-over brown tint) you can go cheaper. Mind you, I went to a cheapo place just to get my fringe trimmed by a centimetre and the resulting mess took months to grow out properly so that's not always necessarily the case.

If your hair is in any way tricky and/or you want something a bit more complex in terms of colour (highlights etc) going cheap has always been a massive mistake in my experience. I've had awful awful cuts and colours from salons at the cheaper end of the scale.

But I've just spent £250 on a cut, brown tint and half-head of subtle caramel highlights and while they look great, I am thinking jesus, that is just far too much money for something that will need done again in not very long at all. So who knows what the solution is ...

No, spent £50 on a specialist for my hair. She even has a 2 month waiting list, people not able to get an appointment, she's so popular.
She did a rubbish job, I'll be going cheap as chips next time to a back street salon that will see all types of hair, or doing it myself.

I only tend to go high end places but I have long hair and only get it cut twice a year, I always find a deal so % off or free extras

Betty777 · 10/07/2019 19:42

Depends what you want done. If it's a restyle or change of colour, I would mostly say yes - then you can take lots of photos and get someone cheaper to copy it when it grows.

My own hair is uber straight, so shows up bad highlights easily, so I wouldnt get them done on the cheap again.

And it's worth getting a recommendation of a specific person at a salon, rather than just the place. And don't go on a Saturday when they are rushed or at busiest times, you get less of their attention

SickOfBeingFat · 10/07/2019 19:44

I pay £9 for a cut and £32 for a cut and full head of highlights and they look great. This is my village salon!

SickOfBeingFat · 10/07/2019 19:45

She did my prom hair a few years ago for £15 including bobby pins etc

FredaFox · 10/07/2019 19:53

On to add I get my hair coloured at wells training school for £20, all the students are experienced stylists who have paid £250 to learn to balayage. So bargain co!our, posh haircut

I have been to expensive places and very cheap places.
I wouldn't recommend either. The best ever haircuts I have had have been by hairdressers who understand how your hair behaves.
Ask someone who has fabulous hair where they go.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 10/07/2019 20:36

I go to a slightly pricey place, but god they’re good. My hair is unruly and impossible and they’re the only ones I trust to do a good job. Cut, colour and highlights every 2-3 months.

foreverhanging · 10/07/2019 20:40

I pay £50 and it's a lovely afternoon out for me :)) (I have a toddler and time to myself is rare)

Gingeraledrinker · 10/07/2019 20:53

I have very straight and "heavy" hair which shows every snip, and I've been a regular client of some of the poshest hair stylists in London and Paris over the years in a bid to get the best hair cut possible. I can honestly say that I now get as good a cut at my local salon around the corner from my home in another European capital for a tenth of the price charged by the posh salons. Yes the furnishings aren't as flash, you don't get a head massage, the products may not be as luxurious, but the cut itself is just as good, if not better! IMHO, it's all in the cut which looks as good after eight weeks as it does after two!

itsallafiddle · 10/07/2019 21:56

Also, it's worth remembering that a lot of the supposedly high end hair salons with a famous name above the door have stylists that are no better than your average high street salon.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 10/07/2019 22:07

Not in my experience, my local stylist is amazing. I have very thick wavy hair and she does a fab job. The colour is perfect and will talk me out of adding extra highlights that will make it over processed and will add purple treatments instead for free. In return I go back every month for my £35 colour and blow.
