Sheet masks. Are they worth it?

I must have been living under a rock for the past few years because I've just heard about these. Has anyone tried them, and are they worth it?

If so, any recommendations for brands? They seem to vary wildly in price. I have rosacea, dry/combination skin and large pores around my nose!

Totally worth it!!! I use one once a week and I love them. At the minute I don't have a specific brand I use all the time as I'm trying different ones every week. I suffer from dry skin too, mainly around the nose/cheek area and I literally don't notice it at all now I've amped up my skincare routine. You can't really go wrong with the masks in terms of what you're buying, I just stay clear of anything with charcoal ingredients as they can be harsh on your skin🙂

Dec2019mumtobe · 10/07/2019 12:28

I've used a sheet mask from the YesTo brand which I've got from BeautyBay and Tesco recently. About £1.50 at the minute on offer in my Tesco.

I only use that brand because they're cruelty free, so I can't compare to anything else.

But I like them! Really easy to clean off your face compared to their more traditional masks which can be messy! I am no expert tho, I really only buy before special occasions.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 10/07/2019 12:32

I love them, they’re a great moisture boost for me, I like neutrogena, they do one for very dry skin.

nothingwittyhere · 10/07/2019 12:55

I've avoided them because I imagine they're made of plastic, like wipes. Anyone know?

slinkysaluki · 10/07/2019 13:20

They are made of a thin muslin/cotton material the ones ive used

HopelessLayout · 10/07/2019 13:29

Thanks. I might try the Neutrogena one first. Some of the brands cost in the region of £15 each!?

I love them & use them once or twice a week. I only use vegan friendly ones. I love nip fab & superdrug own brand. I find tk max is a great place to buy them, had some nice expensive ones pop up in there really reduced in price. Had a vegan gold sheet mask which was meant to be 15 quid but it was reduced to 3. 99

MrsElizabethShelby · 10/07/2019 13:38

Going against the grain but I tried a sheetmask once. Hated the feel of it on my skin. Much much prefer a home made traditional mask. I have a lovely avocado and honey recipe if anyone wants it?

Thatmustbemyname · 10/07/2019 13:44

Loreal do a reusable sheet mask so you get the benefits of it without the waste.

kramburd26 · 10/07/2019 13:45

I don't really like the feel of it when it's on but this Garnier one is brilliant. Really does what it says on the packet. Very easy to find on offer too.

thedevilinablackdress · 10/07/2019 15:32

How are they better than regular face mask?
Seem very wasteful to me.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/07/2019 15:37

I avoid them because they are basically wipes and very environmentally unfriendly.

Also wasteful, there seems to be a lot of leftover serum/crea/ whatever and expensive as well.

ZazieTheCat · 10/07/2019 17:06

A YouTube dermatologist, I forget which one (Dr Dre maybe?), said she thought sheet masks were more effective than normal masks, because they make people sit down and relax (they fall off if you move about) whereas a lot of normal face masks you can pop it on and continue doing tasks. She said never underestimate how much good taking a break and relaxing will do for your skin.

ZazieTheCat · 10/07/2019 17:06

Dr Dray, oops.

Soola · 10/07/2019 17:18

My stepdaughter makes her own by using a baby wipe, cutting out holes then finding it out and then adding her own concoction of ingredients. Lots of ideas online to make your own.

She’s also showed me how to make a perl off face mask using elmers glue! I love peel off masks and I also love clay masks.

I combine Australian pink clay with elmers glue and apply, let it dry and peel off! It’s brilliant! All the benefits of the clay with the ease of a peel off!

Elmers glue is non toxic. It does pull everything out of your pores and you must make sure it doesn’t get on your eyebrows or you’ll pull them out too!

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/07/2019 17:22

They're not for me, it's not just the waste but they make me feel very claustrophobic. I've tried 2 or 3 and not found they help
my skin at all.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 10/07/2019 17:27

I like the Korean ones. I suggest looking on Amazon for Tonymoly ones. They generally leave a brighter look and they can be quite moisturising. Also they look hilarious and you can scare your family members by applying one and jumping out on them!

HopelessLayout · 10/07/2019 18:56

Ha ha—I might try the scaring trick!

There was an article in The Guardian today saying they were life changing or words to that effect, which piqued my interest. I've never been much bothered about normal masks—used to do them occasionally but they never did anything other than make my face very flushed.

They probably work really well for those with both dehydrated skins and a basic skincare regime.
I remember a few articles and posts about women who tried them everyday for a month and there wasn't a visible difference.
I think there's a lot of waste (outer packaging and the plastic backing covering the sheet mask). There's also hygiene issues with some of the Korean ones.

Personally, I'd recommend a really good hydrator before moisturising:
Clinique moisture surge spray
Neutragena Hydro Boost capsule in serum
Superdrug B Refreshed Essence lotion (so good!)
Vichy is supposed to be good too

Those and also a moisturising mask once or twice a week (Drink Up Intensive).

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 10/07/2019 20:35

Personally, I'd recommend a really good hydrator before moisturising:

Yes, the above or Hada Labo Lotion.

Huge bottles, last months, can be layered and simply patted on with your fingers.

AquaPris · 10/07/2019 20:37

Yes. Garnier is nice and 111 skin is incredible but £££ I also like Skynomo

AquaPris · 10/07/2019 20:39

I think lorael do a fully gel one too and anything Korean is good (check TK Max

AquaPris · 10/07/2019 20:41

They differ from regular masks because they're moisturising and not harsh unlike every other bloody mask so good for dry skin

Writersblock2 · 10/07/2019 23:21

I’m really enjoying them. Only been using them for a few weeks but I find they really help with hydration (I have a pretty good skincare routine anyway but I’m prone to eczema when the weather changes).
