What to wear to fly in?

Going abroad soon, it's going to be really hot, probably 30 degrees when we get there.

I want to be warm enough as leaving home in the early hours, comfortable on the plane, but cool enough for when I get there.

I was thinking possibly a jersey maxi skirt and t-shirt/vest top. Or maybe cropped trousers?

Always found it easier to be a bit cold on this side than sweltering when I got off the plane but then I hate that sort of heat

CurlyhairedAssassin · 09/07/2019 22:18

I wouldn’t wear a maxi skirt, what if you get picked at the metal detector at security for a pat down? I always wonder how they do that for women in maxi skirts?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 09/07/2019 22:20

Don’t wear wedge sandals either as they’ll make you take them off to go through security.

I usually wear some very thin lightweight trousers loose harem type trousers and a strappy top. But I dress for comfort not style so don’t listen to me! Grin

I always get cold on the plane so I am wearing a thin Jersey jumpsuit which is bandeau at the top but loose after that.

OpenYourEyes · 09/07/2019 22:24

This. With a cardigan and sandals.

Jumpsuit is a great idea until you have to go to the loo on the plane, then not so much!

growlingbear · 09/07/2019 22:26

I'd wear really light cotton or linen trousers and a vest top with a summer weight cardigan over it.

georgialondon · 09/07/2019 22:28

I always wear thin jeans, sleeveless top and cardie.

stucknoue · 09/07/2019 22:28

Linen trousers, sandals, cotton top, cardigan and a pair of socks for the flight.

Howzaboutye · 09/07/2019 22:31

Wear warm clothes for the travelling. Bring a dress and sandals and change on the plane before landing. Sorted!

Jaffacakebeast · 09/07/2019 22:37

Something stretchy, I always bloat up like mad on planes, even on a short flight

Idontlikeshopping · 09/07/2019 22:38

Curlyhairedassasin I'm definitely comfort over style. But, since having my second child and putting on weight, I have lived in leggings and long cardigans. I'm so out of touch and buying some new clothes for holiday has made me realise.

Howzaboutye I didn't think about changing on the plane. I guess that's an option.

A dress with leggings and a cardie? Leggings and cardie can be taken off as required.

WholelottaPaint · 09/07/2019 22:43

Take something warm - having just come back from somewhere warm and thinking I had dressed for the occasion with cropped trousers, silk shirt and cardigan - I was absolutely freezing and the flight was through the night - with consequently no sleep ! So would suggest socks and a pashmina/blanket....warmth is so important.

Idontlikeshopping · 09/07/2019 22:46

Winter I thought about that. Leggings can just come off at the other side.

Leggings and an oversized t-shirt. Take something warm to wear on the plane, as it can be cool. Fluffy socks especially if flying overnight and adjustable footwear, as your feet will swell.

Theworldcouldbemymollusc · 09/07/2019 22:57

I had one nightmare trip where I was freezing on the outward leg and was begging my husband for his socks and having gone to the airport equipped with jumper/blanket the air con was broken on the way back so we were boiling. Now I always layer so I’m warm enough for English winter but can strip off for tropical if needs

RottnestFerry · 09/07/2019 23:02

I usually dress for the chill of the plane and change before I get off or when I get there. Airports are usually air conditioned.

Pipandmum · 09/07/2019 23:05

A pashmina is like a blanket for trip out but then can be stashed in hand luggage.

WholelottaPaint · 09/07/2019 23:13

I had one nightmare trip where I was freezing on the outward leg and was begging my husband for his socks I looked across the aisle at my husband and he had his raincoat on with hood up and drawn around his face, as were many of the passengers - I couldn't see dh giving up his socks! Airline staff were apparently warm enough - so had no sympathy and refused to alter the temp...and unfortunately it was a 5 hr flight!

BlythesEyes · 09/07/2019 23:28

I always take a thin knitted poncho for plane and cooler evenings...white stuff have some lovely ones in the sale

Villamaria · 10/07/2019 12:07

This is me as I flew a 10 hour journey yesterday and wore a jersey maxi and t shirt, and my underwired bra set off the security bleeper so I also got a pat down!
I wore a denim jacket to the airport and brought a cardigan in my bag, Was glad of the cardi and also wished I brought a pashmina style scarf as the blanket they provided was quite thin and at times there was a bit of a chill. Outfit was v comfy though and still felt looked good on arrival!
