Really warm waterproof boots - ideally stylish!

DS is about to embark upon his first winter on the local football team and as he's only young I'll be going every Sunday. I am in desperate need of something really warm as my feet are always freezing. And ideally something easy on the eye!

Would be even better if I could get something under £100 but would be happy to invest in a pair I loved.

Thank you!

I wear decent wellies and thick socks for this, as do other people, but country boots are v popular footwear for this at our club, Toggi Canyon and Dublin river boots are around £100ish. If you want to go high end look at Dubarry

anothernewusername1 · 09/07/2019 23:03

Thanks @Bigfatpicnic I find I just can't get my feet warm enough in wellies. Even with serious thermal socks. Having a look at your suggestions now. Thank you

You would be fine with LE CHAMEAU ladies wool lined wellies, but they are just over £100. I suppose it depends how much use they will get as to weather they are worth it for your needs. Mine are worth it for me as they are used for twice a day dog walking, football and rugby training/matches.

chasingseagulls · 10/07/2019 08:48

I would disagree, wellies are waterproof but the worst for warmth and you need both equally. The critical thing here is that you will be standing still. Its about getting a decent insulated distance between your foot and the cold ground!

I think snow boots and thermal socks are the way to go. They have a chunkier sole, and thermal lined. Go for a proper technical brand not a shit look-a-like version from the high street. I have Sorels but they don't have to be expensive, Mountain Warehouse type places will have some, although I'd wait for the new season drop, don't buy now unless there are last years in the sale.

"Stylish" depends on personal taste but I have a pair of Geox Hosmos, which have snugly seen me through a couple of wet northern winters.

pinegreen · 10/07/2019 09:02

Merrill are my go-to in winter. Ive got Decora Chant which aren’t made any more, but they have a bunch of similar styles.

Exceptionally warm, and waterproof, and look good with skinny jeans.

You should be able to pick them up cheaply over summer if you hunt for your size online.

I have Aigle Parcours 2 ISO wellies. They have neoprene lining which apparently protects down to -20 degrees C, and a thick sole. They're usually about £200 but I got mine for less than half on amazon.

My DH was horrified I spent that much but I bought them 2.5 years ago and they are as good as new. I've worn them for long walks but they were recommended by a friend who is a keen angler, and she says they keep her warm standing / sitting still for hours. They are a thousand times better than the Hunters I'd owned before (which split within 6 weeks of dog walks and were freezing in the winter)

They come in some rather fetching subdued colours as well. Some available for £80 on amazon www.amazon.co.uk/Aigle-Unisex-Adults-Parcours-Wellington/dp/B008SC49W2/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?adgrpid=51235860697&hvadid=259155896794&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=1006976&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=16925568061968996782&hvtargid=kwd-299892431682&hydadcr=25425_1819466&keywords=aigle+parcours+iso+2&qid=1562746540&s=gateway&sr=8-2

I missed the "stylish" requirement (most bollocks word on this entire forum btw) but to be honest, the best dressed people on the touchline are those dressed appropriately for the weather and situation and means proper, technical outdoor wear.

Yewtown · 10/07/2019 10:28

I have these boots

They are really warm and can cope with the worst Northern Irish weather. I wear them to rugby matches and my feet have never been cold or wet

crumpet · 10/07/2019 10:39

I have hadTimberland snow boots which have lasted several years and been excellent

crumpet · 10/07/2019 10:41

Ds has had a couple of pairs of sorel snow boots - which have also been excellent and he really does feel the cold.

anothernewusername1 · 10/07/2019 10:42

@chasingseagulls I do agree re stylish! But couldn't think of a better word. I've been eyeing up a pair of Sorel. I've read they are big on fit - did you size down?

OP posts:
anothernewusername1 · 10/07/2019 10:43

@pinegreen not heard of Merell before - having a good browse now. Thank you

OP posts:
anothernewusername1 · 10/07/2019 10:43

@crumpet now I might just be sold on sorel. Thank you

OP posts:
anothernewusername1 · 10/07/2019 10:44

@Yewtown they look seriously sturdy

Crankybitch · 10/07/2019 10:46

Make sure you get a light pair of the Sorel boots - some of them can be very heavy

I have a pair and have had them for ages - they keep my feet warm and dry

sleepwhenidie · 10/07/2019 10:50

Sorel (I find them true to size).

A great time to buy boots as you can get some real bargains in the sales

slipperyeel · 10/07/2019 11:14

Sorry @pinegreen - I see you already recommended the merells, I have the short ones and I wear them for walks but also around town when it’s tipping it down

chasingseagulls · 10/07/2019 11:57

I have the Tofino. They are about 8 years old and still good as new. I don't remember paying £180 for them though! You'll definitely get a better deal somewhere.

www.sorelfootwear.co.uk/p/womens-tofino-ii-boot-1690441.html?dwvar_1690441_color=373

I found this style true to size. Bear in mind that means maybe a little roomier than normal shoes, you should be able to move your foot and wriggle your toes comfortably, helps with the warmth and space for layering. They are very lightweight and fit nicely round the leg, great with leggings and skinny jeans.

I remember trying the Joan or Arc style and finding them very heavy and the reviews for rubbing at the ankle weren't great.

chasingseagulls · 10/07/2019 13:53

Joan OF arc
