Sandals and tights, just how bad a fashion faux pas?

I'm going to a party on a boat this week and it will be much colder on the water, so I want to wear tights under my dress. However, the only shoes I have that will go with my outfit are sandals. Can I get away with nude tights underneath or will I be arrested by the fashion police?

Are those toeless tights an even worse idea as an admission that you know you're doing wrong?!

No chance to get shoes in time I'm afraid - takes me about a month of shopping with my odd shaped feet!

IMO, it’s bearable provided that they have a closed toe so you can’t see the seam. If you can see it then it’s a total no-no.

How much warmer are nude (presumably 10 denier) tights going to make you though?

Amibeingdaft81 · 09/07/2019 19:44

Get new shoes

Bluntness100 · 09/07/2019 19:44

Yes this is a terrible look. And those tights aren't remotely going to keep you warm.

Lucked · 09/07/2019 19:44

I agree new shoes.

GreenHatHacker · 09/07/2019 19:44

If nothing else, I thought they would help hide the goose pimples!

I've seen it on the catwalk! Have bright toenails & don't let the seam show. Own it!

managedmis · 09/07/2019 21:09

I nearly did this the other day

StarShapedWindow · 09/07/2019 21:20

wear the toeless ones - no one will notice nude tights if you get the right colour.

prettywhiteguitar · 09/07/2019 21:21

How about trousers ?

SwedishEdith · 09/07/2019 21:24

What colour are the shoes? This can work if you wear clashy colour tights e.g. yellow shoes and purple or red tight. But the dress needs to match the look as well.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/07/2019 21:28

What length is the dress? Can you wear thermal shorts under it? I've worn the non reinforced toe tights and didn't think it looked awful. Not sure they add much heat though.

rockingthelook · 09/07/2019 21:33

Just no, for the love of God, no!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/07/2019 23:33

I think it can work, but it's got to be a look you're owning rather than an apologetic necessity you're trying to hide. I've done it with opaque tights and it looks great with the right outfit and attitude. Be bold!

StarlightLady · 10/07/2019 06:33

Time for new shoes!

ThisIsNotAIBUPeople · 10/07/2019 06:48

I am feeling sweaty at the very thought of tights given the current weather (South East and hot!)

Smartcurve · 10/07/2019 07:29

I'd go toeless!

TapasForTwo · 10/07/2019 09:12

Not hot here - Yorkshire.

small2018 · 10/07/2019 09:13

Bad idea!

Fishnets?

GreenHatHacker · 10/07/2019 16:25

I don't think I've ever made such a divisive post on Mumsnet before!

Please no. Get new shoes, wear trousers or have chilly legs. Will it really be that chilly?! Can’t you just take a jacket?

AudacityOfHope · 10/07/2019 16:40

Leggings instead of tights?

Ineedtoknowit · 10/07/2019 18:16

Only works if you’re wearing it as a statement. Then it’s a look all by itself. Nude tights with sandals looks like you’re trying to hide the tights and doesn’t work at all imo

JaneR0chester · 10/07/2019 20:52

Brightly coloured clashing tights.

Or re-think the entire outfit and wear something warmer that doesn't involve nude tights and sandals.

LagoDiComo · 10/07/2019 21:03

Tights would need to be opaque imo, so looks deliberate. I call nude tights with sandals the webbed toe look but I've struggled a lot with the same issue

MistyMinge2 · 10/07/2019 21:05

No no no Grin
