...I have to have a 'do'?

I hate going to the hairdressers. last went 2 years ago when I got married. I never see the point unless I am having something radical done. I used to dye my hair mad colours and have all different styles. Recently I have no time, money, or really inclination to spend time on it. On the rare ocassions I go out I straighten.

So my question is do I have to have a hair do? Am i being judged every time I go out? Should I be grown up - and have a layered bob or some such, or is it socially acceptable to just let it all hang - as it were?

Just interested - I have unmasked myself - for a limited time only. so you can judge away. I have a daughter so I don't want her to be ashamed of me when she is old enough to be so.

I obv don't want too look like a haggard old bag don'tget (I bet you didn't either even pre-haircut) - but I am wary of committing myself to layer maintenence - as it was a pita even when I was working in central london near to a high street with all the best hairdressers and a bit of spare cash to spend!!!

Do know the great feeling a good new do can give you though - so enjoy it

BM my hair has that cow lick thing as well and a similar wave to it (not as nice as yours )

I find if I try to have it in a style it just kicks out all over the place and looks dreadful. It only works having it very very short, or long, so for the moment I am sticking with long

TranquilaManana · 28/07/2007 17:24

ditto.
have been tempted to go for a bob sort of thing lately.
but its always a disaster when i do as im rubbish at styling, and the older i get, the less i give a toss so end up looking scraggy for a higher percentage of the time IYSWIM.
so i wont.

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 17:26

Thanks bigmouth it was dd2's birthday cake - lemon cake with lots of berries.

flightattendant · 28/07/2007 17:28

Likewise, can't manage styled hair. Every so often have decided a fringe would improve my life, it never has...

after ds1 was born I cut it all off really short and it was hideous. I swore then never to try and be clever again, just grow it long and romantic so I never have to try and get it to do anything special. because it won't

TranquilaManana · 28/07/2007 17:33

lol. i dont seem to be managing 'clever' at all atm, and may never again, try or not. and im not talking about hair

bigmouthstrikesagain · 28/07/2007 17:39

Apparently as a child my mum cut my hair off - as she had me in tears every morning trying to brush the tangles out! I say - had the woman never heard of conditioner!!!!

My dd has v little hair so far but she is getting little curls so she is probably going to have all the same issues as me.

F&Z - yes the inbetween haircut does not work on wavy 'unmanageable' hair as the weight of long hair helps tame the waves, while short hair looks after itself - so I still say a mid length bob is the highest maintenence do poss - ergo I won't be doin that

This thread is great confirmed my default do nuttin position

omg bigmouthstrikesagain
i didn't mean that as an insult to you, it was just how i saw myself for so long.
i knew when i posted that it sounded kind of wrong.
sorry.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 28/07/2007 23:36
  • dont worry 'don't get me etc.' (that is difficult to write in a way that makes sense lol). I opened the thread with an invitation to judge away - so I wasn't offended and I did know what you meant - I think you were being a bit harsh on yourself though.

bitmouth, I think your hair looks really nice, however I'm going to be boring here and say that popping into the hairdressers for a trim, not a do just a trim, on a fairly regular basis would be good for the health (and ultimately the look) of your hair.

Hi Bigmouth - don't do it - think your hair looks lovely - your hair is fine but lots of it, like mine - 'tis a bloody nightmare - never a hair do - more of a hair don't - stay away from the hairdressers - they're evil with their layers & tongs can never recreate it at home

bigmouthstrikesagain · 29/07/2007 00:31

bigmouth preens luscious locks and vows never to darken the doors of the salon again...

(I may cheat a bit though as my big sis is a trained hairdresser)

oh i could have written this
feel the pressure to get a do but I can't be arsed. However there is only so long I can go around looking like an aged student

no layered bob here - would love one actually - as hair too wavy
