Faded clothes.........do you let your children wear them..............

or even wear them yourself.

This morning I put DS2 in a slightly faded T-shirt (otherwise in excellent conditon). DH is taking the 2 older DS's shopping this afternoon and has insisted that DS2 has his top changed.....because of the slight fading.

He also hates wearing/replaces any of his own clothes that have lost even a tiny bit of colour.

binned if stained or faded?!
do you not save them for getting muddy etc in?
or do they get muddy in a clean set which are then binned?

[boggles]

TheQueenOfQuotes · 29/07/2007 21:33

oh blimey he doesn't bin stuff if it's never going to get worn (by our DS's) again then he sends it to the charity shop - and he's ok about them wearing faded stuff around the house - just doesn't like them going out in it,

With tee shirts in George/Tesco for £2 there is no need for them to wear faded clothes or have them repaired?

If they get faded/stained - textile recycling or if they are grown out of passed on to my friends/relatives.

FrannyandZooey · 29/07/2007 21:38

Erm, some of us would rather wear old stuff than buy new from a dodgy supermarket

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 21:39

fair enough perhaps if they really do get recycled or handed on
but binned...

(and what do they wear in the mud then?)

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 29/07/2007 21:40

QoQ is that you G......................K ??

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 29/07/2007 21:41

Kids clothes are cheap enough but i admit I currently only have dd (am pg now)so might change soon....!

she has too many clothes but ebay is my salvation

Chipstick · 29/07/2007 21:41

Mud washes perfectly well Just back from Farm today absolutely covered but straight in machine and clean again.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 29/07/2007 21:41

yes 'tis me

MrsB - they really do get handed on or recycled - and for playing in the mud - they just wear their normal clothes (washing machines are amazing things you know )

hibu

nothing wrong with faded clothes

unknownrebelbang · 29/07/2007 21:43

My boys will be in faded, stained stuff for the next few days... on cub camp.

What better?

There is the odd occasion where I might insist on the lads wearing something I want them to wear, but they really are few and far between.

And no I wouldn't notice what other children are wearing when I'm out.

allgonebellyup · 29/07/2007 21:43

in the words of the ever-wise moondog;

get a grip!

MrsBadger · 29/07/2007 21:43

didn't mean you QoQ, meant those whose kids apparently have no second-best clothes...

PestoMonster · 29/07/2007 21:46

I love faded clothes, they look well-loved and you don't have to be precious about 'em.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 29/07/2007 21:48

ahh sorry MrsB

In his defence I think it's part of his upbrining/culture.......thinking about it most Zimbabwean families I know always have their children turned out immiaculately - even very poor ones have "good clothes" for when people come over/they're going out.......

MuminBrum · 29/07/2007 21:49

Faded, yes, also stained (as long as clean), torn, with buttons missing, you name it.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 29/07/2007 21:49

that's the wierd thing PM - he's not at all precious about them - not at all unusual for him to take them out to the park (or even to help in the garden) and for them to come back absolutely filthy
