Dyson hairdryers.....

Are they actually superior to normal hairdryers? £300 is a lot if you aren't going to end up with a better finish...does anyone recommend them?

I got mine about 2 weeks ago. It's my new best friend, I am going to kick DP out and marry my new dyson. I am in love with it beyond reason.

Seriously, it's really good once you figure out which settings suit your hair. I love it.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 08/07/2019 15:52

What’s your hair like? I have very fine hair and I can’t say it dries mine any faster but it’s a lot quieter and easier to hold due to the motor being in the handle.

It’s nice to have but I won’t replace it when it breaks.

MidsomerBurgers · 08/07/2019 18:29

I love mine. I have very thick hair that takes ages to dry. This has more than halved the drying time and gives a nice shine.

Try QVC, 6 x easy pay and you can send it back up to 28 days if it doesn't suit you.

Hairdresser here. Don’t rate them at all. Wouldn’t waste my money on one

claire697 · 08/07/2019 20:31

Tried one at my hotel at the weekend and didn't like it at all. Had been considering buying one but a GHD air dryer instead. So glad I did. I have very thick hair and the Dyson took forever and make no difference to my level of frizz. Only positive thing I can say about it was that it was gentle.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 08/07/2019 20:35

I've got the Dyson Airwrap and it is fab. I couldn't justify the hairdryer on it's own, and although I really wanted the Airwrap I wouldn't have spent all that money on it, but DH and DS went halves on it for Christmas. My hair has never been in better condition.

caffeinebuzz · 08/07/2019 20:40

It took me a week or so to get used to the dyson hairdryer, but from then on I wouldn't be without it until the Airwrap came along and made it redundant, much to DH's dismay

IloveJudgeJudy · 08/07/2019 21:52

I've had my Dyson for about 18 months now. I think it takes time to find your own way of using it. I dried someone else's hair with it yesterday for the first time. My goodness, the cuticles really laid down and the hair looked great afterwards and it didn't take too long. I'm not a hairdresser, but I get the best results ever on my own hair with it and people compliment me on my shiny hair.

puffyeyedsugarmonster · 08/07/2019 22:12

I've had mine since they first came out 2/3 years ago and I love it. Like PP I might marry it!

I have long very thick hair and it nearly halved my drying time, I also love the way it drys without extreme heat and has massively helped improve the condition of my hair. The one annoying this is that it doesn't travel well, I took it to the states and it wouldn't work.

I agree with those who say it takes a bit of getting used to. The weight is in the handle rather than the body, which actually requires less muscle power, but you need to get used to the technique.

I've had mine almost two years now and wouldn't be without it - thick, wavy hair which was long till about a year ago and now fairly short. Absolutely no frizz, even when the weather turns damp!

(Have used it successfully in Italy too)

GetOffTheTableMabel · 08/07/2019 22:21

I absolutely love my supersonic dryer and would replace it immediately if it broke. I have also got the air wrap but haven’t really mastered it. It take me longer than styling without it. I have leant my dyson dryer to several people who were considering buying one. Two went on to buy their own and two decided not to bother.

AliceRR · 08/07/2019 22:23

I got mine about two weeks ago and posted asking for advice on hair dryers at the time. I haven’t tried it enough to form a full opinion. I have curly hair and have used it with the diffuser but only when my hair is nearly dry anyway so haven’t tried it “properly”. Having said that, I haven’t noticed it do anything spectacular (except that I like that it’s a lot lighter and quieter than other hair dryers I’ve used), but I do like it and I don’t regret buying it 🤷🏻‍♀️

cjloveske · 08/07/2019 22:34

My hair is thick and wavy. I like straightening it with ghd's.

Does anyone know the best place to sell a personalised number plate?
Are there any costs with changing the car back to the original one?

Lumene · 11/07/2019 10:57

I am interested in one purely due to the ability to keep heat at a low but blowdryable setting

il0vew1ne · 11/07/2019 11:50

Did not like mine. I have fine hair and it made it frizzy, my parlux is far superior for my hair.

Sicario · 11/07/2019 11:53

It's fabulous.

inthebackground · 11/07/2019 11:53

Tried, wasn’t keen. Had a ghd air for years and wouldn’t change it, takes a few mins

DickZillaofTheVilla · 11/07/2019 11:54

I absolutely love mine it’s so light and easy to hold and dries so fast. I’ve actually buzzed my hair to a number 3 now so don’t get as much use out of it but it dries my Peke super fast so it’s not wasted Grin

Ivegotthree · 11/07/2019 12:33

We have these at my gym and I was really excited to try them but honestly they are little different to normal hairdryers.

I was thinking about buying one but having tried them a few times at the gym I definitely won't now. They just look a bit different but male no difference to the drying time or quality compared to my normal GHD hairdryer.

Soola · 11/07/2019 14:34

I loathe Dyson the man but caves in and bought the hairdryer.

I love it. The vacuum cleaners are crap and I returned a fan but he has got it right with the hair dryer.

I bought mine and paid in full from QVC but it came with a stand and I decided I didn’t like the look of the stand so I sold it BNIB and that then made the price of my buying the hairdryer cheaper than anywhere else.

I have the black one as I didn’t want the pink.

It’s easy to use and I have long hair with a fri he and it dries it very quickly and low noise.

AliceRR · 11/07/2019 14:46

I got the black one too @Soola

Weathergirl1 · 11/07/2019 14:56

Fine longish hair here (was actually nearly waist length until March this year) and I love mine. Never used to use a dryer because I hated how it made my hair voluminous and boiled me at the same time, but genuinely find the Dyson nice to use (low heat setting dries hair well without making me sweat!) And smoothes my hair well - really noticeable when my hair was very long (it's just below shoulders now). I got mine half price (JL returned item) but if I needed to replace it I definitely wouldn't bat an eyelid at paying full price.

cjloveske · 21/07/2019 07:49

On balance of all you kind people who have responded I think I will go for it. It's my birthday next month and my DP is going to buy me one.
