Body analysis

HermioneSnape42 · 08/07/2019 09:01

Has anyone paid for a body analysis and colour analysis and regretted it?

I have.

I hate what my analysis is and thought I was the total opposite. I cannot find clothes anymore, anything I used to wear right down to the colour is “wrong”

I could ignore, I know. But now I “know” I can’t seem to ignore the analysis at all. Ridiculous I know.

queenmabby I think I need to do that. But it’s hard I’m in the mindset that this “expert” has analysed me as X and in reality I’m Y ?? If that makes sense?

I want to embrace the analysis but just can’t. It’s seems totally wrong to me. It might be the actual analysis though. It’s a tough one to be I think in the height of summer. There might be more options in my colour palette in the winter maybe? Clutching at straws:)

Looking at your photos, yes I can see why the person who did the analysis put you in the inverted triangle category, but I think you are actually somewhere between hourglass & IT & would look great in the vintage inspired stuff sold in the likes of Vivienne of Holloway, Hellbunny etc. I actually think despite your arms, you'd mostly look better in hour glass clothing. At least if I was designing something for you, that's what I would guide you towards.

I don't think they were wrong per se, but I'm wondering how experienced they were, could they make a judgement outside of a set of tick boxes & actually look at you & go from there. IYSWIM. I'm not an analyst, but as a fashion designer & seamstress with a lot of experience, I wouldn't dress you as a triangle, but a mix up & definitely more of an hour glass, HTH

Colour wise it's difficulty tell from what I can see, but I'd guess that you'd look great in aqua colours, blues, turquoise
, teal, greens etc

LonelyTiredandLow · 08/07/2019 22:18

I'm inverted triangle and I find dresses sometimes by googling Empire Line Dress...worth a shot?

LonelyTiredandLow · 08/07/2019 22:22

I've got a similar issue with not trusting colouring though as have been told I'm a Summer and think I'm a Spring Wink
Green eyes and mousey/red/blonde hair. Tan and have freckles in Summer - met her in Winter and get v. pale then. I also had tinted my eyebrows whereas naturally they are very blonde...

RockinHippy · 08/07/2019 22:28

I've just done a colour analysis for myself & got winter. Some of the colours on that palette I know look dreadful on me, which is a shame as I do like them, but they drain my face & make me look dead. So if that's anything to go by, it's a load of baloney 😐

Ohyesiam · 08/07/2019 22:30

You have a great figure, but the hallmark of hourglass is the waist, which you’re not strong on.?

Why don’t you try lots of clothes and buy the ones that made you look better?

SheStoodInTheStorm · 08/07/2019 22:31

Was it styled by susie by any chance?

chza · 08/07/2019 22:44

Yes to inverted triangle but no to winter. I can tell your skin is cool toned but you look much more like a summer to me.

teta · 09/07/2019 08:42

I think the inverted triangle diagnosis is true. I'm not sure about you being a winter .I would say you look like you have a soft colouring not the strong contrast of Winters.
I'm a similar shape and wear a lot of plain tops with a v or scoop neck in black or white. Mainly linen from places like H&m, Jigsaw, Oysho. I do wear lots of pattern on my lower half especially in summer. I'm currently wearing a leopard print skirt with a black top.
It's definitely the right time to look for tops as many are now in the sale.
If you find it hard to do plain tops add in some colour with a necklace or vibrant hoops?

HermioneSnape42 · 09/07/2019 09:36

teta I’m looking at the sales now and I literally cannot see anything that fits the brief. Maybe I’m a crap shopper.

I’m on next at the moment they have v-neck tops or t-shirts but they are patterned or horizontal stripes which I can’t wear. Or they are the wrong colour.

I usually wear oasis style tops with dark jeans or tunics with leggings. Maybe it’s just such a big change I can’t do it all in one go.

Winter colours are jewel colours. I cannot find anything in them at all.

Definitely an inverted triangle, but I'm not sure you're a winter, what do you consider to be your best and worst colours?

Lumene · 09/07/2019 09:56

As an inverted triangle you are lucky to have:

Ample bust
Nice small bottom

You obviously also have a slim waist from your measurements.

You are still the same shape and size as before your analysis, your body is just as lovely.

Every figure is different and so different things will be possible/most flattering.

You don’t have to wear everything or even anything recommended for your shape. You just have some different potentially flattering ideas to experiment with over time and when you can find them in the shops.

Lumene · 09/07/2019 09:57

M and S has v neck t shirts in plain white and black at the moment.

Unburnished · 09/07/2019 10:11

You’re definitely an inverted triangle (broad upper body, undefined waist, slimmer lower body). The shape analysis is done from the back not the front.

For your shape, Wallis is excellent (I know, I know, but they do some great stuff if you ignore the frump), DPs is good too as is Karen Millen (go up a size) and Warehouse.

Instead of florals, think vertical stripes, aztec prints, asymmetric prints, feather prints and palm prints. These harder lines will compliment your straight body architecture in a way that florals dont.

In terms of colour, Im not sure youre a winter either. If you have ‘the eyes’ then you could be a bright spring (they butt into winter and are slightly warmer). I’d go and see another consultant or at the very least, pop over to 12bluprints and see if you recognise yourself there.

Also look on Pinterest boards for inverted triangle body shape and straight body architecture. You look like a Natural/Classic to me. Natural (strong & broad with blunt bones) & Classic due to your clothing and style choices.

Also look at AllyArt on YouTube.

MumUndone · 09/07/2019 10:13

Maybe it's the colours that are wrong? I'm pretty sure that inverted triangle is correct from photo. Lots of v necks to show great cleavage. If you like prints I think you should stick with them though, and skater dresses that flare out and even out your bottom half with your top half.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 09/07/2019 10:19

Just wanted to say that I think you should continue to wear the pretty bird prints. I think they'd look lovely with your colouring. And being happy is more important than being 'right' (whatever right means anyway).
Wear what makes you feel joy!

teta · 09/07/2019 14:57

@HermioneSnape42y try Gap UK for long n short sleeved v necks.
Yes, I'm sorry the other shops appear to have sold out. M&s are also worth a look.

ilovecherries · 09/07/2019 15:57

I think a style analysis is really for inspiration, and to encourage you to try something new - it's not to be followed slavishly, and certainly shouldn't make you feel miserable about yourself. I am on some colour groups on FB though, and I cant believe the amount of angst there appears to be about something like a hair clip or shoelaces (I'm not even exaggerating!). I think the key colour thing for you is that you've identified that you look better in cooler colours. The stylist has placed you at a different end of the spectrum than the one you thought you were at, but in my opinion, there isn't an absolute cut off point. My daughter is a winter, and looks fine in my more muted summer clothes, whereas I can look a bit overwhelmed in her brighter shades of the same colour. Body shape is a bit more defined than colour, I guess, because your measurements will tell the story, rather than the subjectiveness of eyes 'popping' as the colour purists insist, so I'd probably start there, while continuing with the colour YOU love.

Afteryoux · 09/07/2019 17:11

I’m a winter and don’t think of jewel colours but more cool colours like iced pink, very pale blue, also black and white, silver, coral and aqua, all of which do suit me. I used to wear khaki, orange or cream which apparently do not suit my colouring and I can see it now.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 09/07/2019 18:08

It's all a load of bollocks OP, another stick to beat women with, these idiotic categories

Imagine a group of men discussing if they are a spherical, oblique or trapezium shape. It would be ridiculous nonsense, right?

Just order some nice clothes that you like

Lucked · 09/07/2019 23:13

Not all winter colours are jewel colours. Cool winter would suit you. Did they give you swatches? Can you post a photo of them?

Greenglassteacup · 10/07/2019 07:08

I think you would be best going back to wearing what you like because trying to follow these inflexible ‘rules’ isn’t sounding like much fun.

cad186 · 10/07/2019 07:22

I am an inverted triangle too and it is very difficult to find clothes to suit that shape. I do still wear patterns on my top half though as long as the shape of the top is right. I find Oasis, Dp, warehouse good for simpler tops, there isn't much choice but they usually do have something suitable online. Dresses are a nightmare!

Floisme · 10/07/2019 07:41

Cherries is spot on. There was a time when I was thinking of going for colour analysis. I got as far as talking to a consultant (who had been recommended) and one of the things that put me off was that she tried to sell it to me by saying it would save me thinking about what to wear. I told her, 'But I like thinking about what to wear.' And that was that.

You say you can't ignore op but I don't see what the alternative is. It was basically her opinion and, if she couldn't convince you to see what she could see, then she did a poor job.

QueenJulian · 10/07/2019 07:44

You could do the Kibbe test (Aly art on YouTube) which seems more detailed than hour glass, inverted triangle etc. I don’t think you’re an hourglass though and you look more like a summer than a winter but as PP said, it’s more relevant that you’re cool or warm as that’s the thing that seems to make the most difference.
