Chemically damaged curls

I hope someone can help :(

I used to have very fine long curly hair until a few months ago when I decided to go blond. The haidresser over- bleached my hair with powder and while the colour was nice - my curls were lost and streched! She said after a few good hair masks - my hair will return to normal curly pattern - it hasnt yet! And i hate it. Some of parts are terribly streched and damaged still and some of them just starting to curl up a bit - looks like a right mess! Since then I went back to my orginal dark colour and started CG method but nothing seems to help. Im desperate to get my lovely curls back :( I keep looking at my old pics and admiring the curls that I didnt kind of liked back in the day. Now its all I want to get them back!!! I am not using any heat on them as they are very weak now and I dont want to cut it so much as its almost all their lenght that is damaged.... Any ideas what could I do? Thanks xxx

I think you need to hammer the moisture and protein so lots of deep conditioning first. If that doesn't help then protein treatments

PippiDeLena · 07/07/2019 15:12

Do you do deep conditioning treatments OP? I alternate each week between Shea Moisture black castor oil hair mask and a single use protein mask from Superdrug.

Here is a method of deep conditioning that has absolutely saved my damaged curly hair:

Apply the mask to washed, wet hair.
Separate your hair into 3 sections, left, right and top.
Starting on one side section, coat the hair with the mask, brushing through with your fingers.
Once you're sure that section is coated, take a smaller section of hair, divide it into 2 (about the width of a little finger each) and twist the two little finger pieces around each other in a spiral, adding more mask if you find a dry area. This trains your hair to curl correctly and also gives each strand some individual attention.
Do this for the whole section, then do the other side section.
For the top section, do the same but twist the hair so it's coming forward from the back of your head; this'll help with volume.
Once your whole head is done, put your hair into a showercap and wrap a long sleeved T shirt / scarf over it to trap the heat of your hair and encourage the mask to penetrate the hair shaft.
Leave it on for 1hour+ then wash out with lukewarm water and your head upside down.
Follow the rest of your CGM routine.

This makes a world of difference compared to just slapping the mask on my head like I used to before.

Whats the best CG approved protein treatment? I definitely need one as all moisture deep treatments seem not to be workibg as they should... and I di use them twice a week

I like this Hask Protein Deep Conditioner

Lizzielocket · 07/07/2019 18:53

I echo pp, you need to get some protein into your hair but not too much because it can cause breakage.
I’d alternate a protein pack with a deep conditioner weekly. Palmers do very good products for Afro hair which would be brilliant for you. They sell it in Superdrug.
CG didn’t work for me, it just made my curls matted and my scalp itchy. I never felt clean.
Air dry your hair, try Bedhead curls rock, it gives good hold without being too crunchy. As it’s drying give it a scrunch now and again.
As somebody who wrecked their curls through bleaching too I feel your pain. My curl pattern came back but it does take time.

Olaplex might help, but wear it overnight once a week for a month.

YesQueen · 07/07/2019 19:52

As others said keep deep conditioning and CG method (or Lo or no sulfate shampooing, you don’t have to exclusively co/wash and a Lo sulfate shampoo clarifies nicely).

I’d say give it 6/8 weeks. If no improvement then more drastic action is required such as having it cut short. A long time ago (and the reason I’ve been a Curly ever since) I had my curls chemically straightened (this is decades ago) and the chemicals were so strong that they burnt bits of my scalp. My hair was totally fried too. I ended up having it cut short (pixie style) and all my curls came back. But it did take a year or two to grow it back to shoulder length.
Having said that a short cut with healthy curls looked tons better and was super easy to look after and it suited me. So there is light at the end of the tunnel. Your curls will recover and I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad experience and you should also tell the hairdresser as she’s not aware I take it? She may offer you an Olaplex treatment free and a trim to help repair the damage she’s caused.

I love and use the Bucleme range inc their co wash, deep conditioning treatment, curl cream and curl gel. Real TLC for curls.

For Lo/no sulfate shampoo once a week I recommend this from Trepadora, I’ve had mine for a year and still lots left as I only use 2 pumps once a week to clarify and give my scalp a really good clean. Even though it’s sulfate Free it is low foam so it feels like you’re using a regular shampoo.

Hope it recovers soon!
