Help with sideboob....Crop top style bra with underwire

lolbrador · 06/07/2019 23:27

Hello.

I have been googling but not sure what to google. I've realised that my back fat and sideboob are much less pronounced when wearing my sports bras but they do make me look rather flat chested.

Does anyone know of an alternative sports bra type bra with underwire that controls the side boob and stops the lumps and bumps?

Thank you Smile

Maybe you arent wearing the correct size

lolbrador · 06/07/2019 23:46

I've just lost weight and so just been measured at both m and s And a local shop where I came up the same size in both. I think it's maybe more a smoothing situation I need

M&S aren't good for measuring. What size did they say you were?

AnotherEmma · 06/07/2019 23:56

Measure yourself using this guide
booborbust.com/

I would put money on M&S measuring you wrong

AnotherEmma · 06/07/2019 23:58

I overheard an M&S "bra fitter" in the fittings rooms recently, doing the outdated and incorrect "method" of adding 4 inches to get the band size. I really wanted to pipe up and correct her!

lolbrador · 07/07/2019 08:00

They measured me as a 34dd. The 34 was cutting me in half so I had to swap for a 36! Can anyone recommend where is best for fitting? I never realised m and s had such a bad rep!!

Could be that the cup size was too small rather than the back size. Have you tried measuring yourself?

moonpiggle · 07/07/2019 08:07

Iv recently heard this too about M & S but to be fair I should have known as they measured me an E cup but im in fact an F. Have you got a Debenhams near to you? Although I got my v supportive sports bra from George at Asda and they actually do them (not all) in cup sizes not S,M or L which i find ridiculous.

AnotherEmma · 07/07/2019 08:25

So what size tops do you wear? 10 or 14/16?

thetardis · 07/07/2019 08:27

my panache sports bra is the biz, i just got a new one due to shrinkage (me, not the bra!). full coverage, but decent shape/separation.

panache

they also do loads of non-sports, that are well cut imho. i don't have the boobage for them but my daughters do and find them v comfy. they're cut pretty wide along the sideboob area which defo helps.

(the sports at least can usually be found at a discount on other sites btw)

Soontobe60 · 07/07/2019 08:33

M+S do a really good minimiser bra that covers back fat and side boob nicely.

I usually take lots of different sizes of the same bra to try in rather than just thinking I'm one particular size. So I have a range of bras from 36g to 40dd all of which fit me.

lolbrador · 07/07/2019 11:44

AnotherEmma I wear a size 10/12 in tops. I just assumed that m and s would know what they're doing, I'm going to do a self measure.

Panache looks great

Thanks everyone

In that case you're probably a 30F or thereabouts.
See how you get on with Boob or Bust method.
Do you have a Bravissimo near you? I always get fitted there, they're usually excellent.

lolbrador · 07/07/2019 13:48

I'm not sure but I'll look into bravissimo! Thank you l

RockinHippy · 07/07/2019 18:00

Bravissimo should I've been to are dreadful for fitting too, plus they won't leave you alone in the fitting room, even when you tell them too & very high pressure to buy. Worst fitting bra I ever had was from there.

I'm also guessing you are a smaller band size & bigger cup, but your better off self measuring & taking it from there. Side boob is pretty much always too small a cup size, remembering that the wire of your cup should sit mid way of your underarm

AnotherEmma · 07/07/2019 18:12

With all due respect Rockin I think your experience of Bravissimo is pretty rare, they are generally good.

RockinHippy · 07/07/2019 18:20

It is my experience & many others I know too, not just locally. Their policy is what's known in the trade as "vanity sizing', as in, you'll come away thinking you are slimmer & more booby than you really are, so more likely to buy. We've a friend who falls for it hook line & sinker & announces to the whole bar her bra size & how good Bravisimo are, when I'm looking at her wearing a very badly fitting bra

Oh & measuring/fitting is part of my profession, something I have a considerable amount of experience in 🤷‍♀️

BinkySodPlop · 07/07/2019 18:29

Another vote for the booborbust method here. If you're not totally convinced, consider that if a non-stretchy tape measure goes round you at 30 inches, a bra with lycra will, too. (As an example, if it comes out at 30f.)

veryboredtoday · 07/07/2019 19:08

I only get measured now at bravissimo and have always had excellent service. Wouldn't recommend anywhere else for those of us endowed with larger than average boobs. (Except maybe Rigby and peller but they cost ££££

lolbrador · 07/07/2019 19:25

I'm going to do booborbust tonight. I had no idea the cup was meant to go that high?! Mines stops very low down.

Are John Lewis any good? I have one near me

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 07/07/2019 19:28

John Lewis is better than M&S (not difficult) but best to go knowing your BoB size. If you are a 30F or thereabouts, Bravissimo will have more in your size than John Lewis.

Sproink · 07/07/2019 20:26

I was a bit dubious about Bravissimo's 'vanity' sizing too. Before I went there I had always bought a 32 but came out from Bravissimo with a 28. I've since bought several more with the same back size and they fit perfectly.

happyasasandboy · 07/07/2019 20:39

To check whether your new bras are the right back size, put them on backwards and do them up so the cups are on your back (no need for the straps!). The chest band should be snug; a finger or two to squeeze under, but not cutting you in half either.

If it feels loose then you need to go down a back size. Get the back size right with the bras on backwards, then turn them round and go bigger and bigger with the cup sizes until you're comfortable (keeping back size as fitted with the bra backwards).

Remember to lean over 90 degrees and scoop your breast tissue into the cups. Side "fat" and back "fat" is often displaced breast tissue that has been forced round there by badly fitting bras. Scooping everything forward into the cups will eventually train it all to stay forwards.

CottonSock · 07/07/2019 20:43

Bravissimo fit me too tight on back, I just can't wear them. But they ate fine about it when I say that's what I want. I love panache but still have some side fat. I have some extra breast tissue under one arm that adds to it.
Following this thread to see if there is a solution. Maybe we are sometimes a bit self critical though.

lolbrador · 07/07/2019 21:25

@CottonSock I saw a hugely unflattering picture of my back and i was bulging out all over the place!. Horrid. I realised that the only bra that doesn't cause that is my sports crop top style bra.

Almost home so as soon as I am the measuring tape is coming out!!Smile
