Is this a bad dress?

So I bought a dress from a Chinese website (I'm attending a family wedding soon). I only paid £40 because it was a "sample". I knew the fit would be big but I thought I could alter it IF it was a nice dress.

I've shown me wearing it next to the website photo. The lace appears to be heavy, no delicate like the photo. Obviously the length needs taken up (is the model 6ft 5?!). It's also big around the waist and hips so would need to be taken in.

Do you think it's worth spending money to alter? I can't decide whether it's worth doing or not.

I don't think it's a disaster dress but if I saw it in a shop I wouldn't buy it (or try it on)!

Enjoy your JL shopping experience. And the free Prosecco. Not too much mind!

Oh @Tootytata, it's so hard with body confidence post baby. I have had 2 girls, 2 sections and I remember my weight gain was particularly bad after my first. I am short and I felt I looked awful. I did lose it (although I have an apron which will never go and I used to agonise over this).

Just remember you had a baby! Your body grew a whole new organ and a whole new person which is absolutely phenomenal. As women we put far too much pressure on ourselves! I think its incredible you have lost so much already. You look lovely and curvy and I am sure you will look beautiful in whatever you wear.

I hope the personal shopper session goes well, I've done it before and they chose things that I would never have gone for myself and I felt like a million dollars in. And no more ordering from Chinese websites! You deserve better! Flowers

What about a wrap style dress ?

Soontobe60 · 06/07/2019 07:54

Op, I've just bought this jumpsuit from John Lewis for my DDs wedding. She chose it for me! I'm a size 16 with big boobs, I got a 14, and I'm 5'2" so it's longer on me than on the model. It's got a shirted elastic waist so fits nicely and will expand a bit to fit in the food 🤣🤣
I did try in loads of dresses in JL, mostly wrap style, but as my boobs are big they didn't look good. You look to have smaller boobs so would look fab in a wrap dress.

Oops, the link would be helpful!

Soontobe60 - that jumpsuit is lovely! It looks so comfortable! I'll try it on when I'm next in JL Smile

Cakeinmyface - thank you for your kind words Smile it feels less lonely knowing that other woman also go through coping with body confidence after having a baby. Hopefully I will get to a stage where I feel like "me" again.

OP have a look at Jade Beall’s photos of women after children. Sometimes it’s easier to see the beauty in others first.
