Will re-bleaching my hair turn it orange?

I dyed my hair from naturally dark blonde/light brown to very light blonde. Whilst it looked a bit brassy for a few weeks, I used violet shampoo and over time it settled in to a lovely bright colour. Then my dark roots started to show through and so I used a Clairol root touch up treatment which worked ok (ish!) But now my hair is growing, I now have nice, light blonde hair then about an inch of orange/blonde touched up hair followed by about a centimetre of dark roots! Stunning, eh?? I’m desperate to have hair which makes me feel good as so much of my life is horrible at the moment. But I can’t afford to visit the hairdressers to fix it and I don’t know how to sort it myself. Any ideas what I can do?

Can't you just use the same dye you used the first time? You know already that that will work on your roots. I'm guessing the Clairol root product wasn't the same shade/warmth as the box dye you used perhaps.

When you say you 'dyed' it, do you mean you used bleach? I think you can only get the right level of lift with bleach, the box dyes just aren't strong enough, hence the orange.

Research online the best bleaches - if you are willing to spend a bit more, some of the salon grade ones you buy online have bond builders in them now, and actually work out cheaper because you are buying a big pot.

If you used a box dye the first time, just use that again and follow the instructions for "root touch up". Basically put it on your roots, leave for most of the time, and then rub it through to the ends for the last 10 mins or so. Box dues are designed to be used every 6 weeks or so, though I've never had a problem using them every 3 or 4 weeks.

If you bleached it rather than using a box, I have no advice at all!

It was a box dye that I used first time round to dramatically lighten my hair. It was very easy to do but, after using the Clairol root touch up, I am really worried it could make my hair a nice shade of orange instead of the lovely blonde of my youth!

If you want the orange bits and the dark roots to go the same colour as the rest, just use the same box dye again, in the same way you did the first go.

The root touch up was a different colour because it's just "blonde" rather than the specific blonde you chose in the box dye.
