Nail lifting from bed after mani!!

I’m in slight shock here. I had a manicure and polish last week, which I never normally do but had an event to go to.

I’ve just removed the nail varnish and my nails are lifting up from the nail bed about 1/3 down the nail.

Research tells me it’s onycholysis and can happen after an allergy to manicure products, along with fungal infection or vitamin deficiency but I’m pretty sure it’s the former.

Has anyone else had this experience? What can I do to help them heal?

I keep them short but I’m terrified they’re going to lift up and off with any pressure!

Had this happen to me this October (2019).
My very first ever nail gel application( and very last ever now).

She didn't even extend nails as I thought would happen. She cut my own nails really short and used an electric buffer.

The nail varnish was starting to chip next day and so I made the mistake of trying to pick it off. It was too stubborn to get all off so I went to another salon to finish it off.

But she used used an electric buffer over and over, grinding and grinding, and it actually hurt. I could feel the heat through my nail.

Over the weeks, whilst doing things like cleaning out bins, without a thought, I began to notice that the dirt was deep going inside my nail bed and I had lost the lovely rounded edge line of my finger under the nail! They look awful. Ragged.

My nails are also soo thin from the electric filing and are already cut lower than my nail bed ! ( I had been cutting the thin broken bits off and they start lower!)

I pray the skin regrows back to reattach to nail. There appears much to suggest on medical sites that they do not reattach.

If any one has had them fully reattach to create your old nail line , I will be very keen to hear. I never wear even nail varnish but now I cannot remove the dirt from low down in my nails I feel I might have to to just not look unhygienic :'(

This is the only place I can find a possible explanation for my nail lifting! Every other search says that it’s caused by a medical condition. I noticed nail lifting about a month or so ago after cleaning the kitchen (washing dishes and cleaning surfaces) and I trimmed them down and added red gel polish for Christmas. I removed it a week later and the same thing happened, so I trimmed them down to the nail again and added the same red gel. I let them go two weeks this time to try and grow out the lifting. Today I washed my hair and of course they're sore and lifting under the polish! I wasn’t aware that a reaction to gel could make them prone to lifting but it has to be the cause mixed with extended water exposure. One hand is significantly worse but all my nails are every tender. I’m going to try oiling everyday, thanks for sharing!
