Dry skin, how do you touch up your makeup?

I have dry skin and put on a full face at 6:30am:
Moisturiser
Primer
ELDW
Guerlain Meteorites powder
Eyeliner
Mascara
Blusher
Lipstick

By 3pm the pores on my nose look like craters, powder touch up doesn’t fill them in, there are tiny specs of mascara under my eyes and any concealer has been absorbed.
Whilst it’s easy to reapply blusher and lipstick, how do I conceal the pores on my nose, my under eye area and generally make my face look fresh in the office loo?
I have zero oil on my face but no dry flakey bits. Some compacts show up as ‘bits’ if you apply on top.

If you have skin similar to mine, what products do you use to freshen up if you’re going out in the evening without taking off makeup and reapplying everything?

Thank you

I use a flat top buffing brush to apply concealer and take that with me when I'm at work etc and just use that to buff my face and it freshers me up. I dont wear foundation so not sure if it would work so well.

Makeup artist here 👋🏼 on areas like this, it's highly uncommon that my clients have to top up, so I will just talk you through my skin routine:

I don't use moisturiser AND primer as a base, one or the other. You can use primer, then mix your foundation with moisturiser. If you're using a bb/cc cream, you don't need moisturiser as these are effectively tinted moisturisers.

Concealer on top of base colour - I usually just do under eyes for an everyday look.

Pat a small amount of powder along the centre of your face and under your eyes.

Blush and bronze.

I don't use a setting spray, as I feel I don't need to, but you could if you still feel your makeups not lasting.

And to apply anything to your face, always use brushes or a sponge, there are natural oils in your hands that you don't want to add to your skin.

I absolutely disagree about only using either primer or moisturiser.

With dry skin, you’re going to want to look at your skincare products first. A good skincare routine will turn your skin into a more normal/balanced type which will change the way your makeup lasts.

If you use Estée Lauder double wear, that may not be the best foundation for your skin as it is so full coverage. The hourglass foundation stick would be better as it’s a cream formula.

If your concealer & mascara are fading and transferring, you need to replace these products with something else

You might need a powder with more coverage for on the go touch ups, it’s a basic product but I use Mac studio fix plus foundation powder - my skin is back to looking flawless and even throughout the day.

Thanks for the tips. However, the issue that I have is that by 4pm my foundation and concealer have disappeared from under my eyes and my nose. My face looks tired.
Do I get a creamy compact foundation and pile it on top? If so, what products do you recommend?

I have the same skin type as you.

I have noticed a huge difference since I have started using a serum under my moisturiser. My make-up lasts much longer as my skin is more moisturised.

I also found that full coverage foundation made my skin look older by mid afternoon so have changed to a medium coverage and I definitely look fresher throughout the day.

FyEnwiYwLucy · 03/07/2019 19:31

@browzingss the only reason I say that is it seems to make the skin slimey. My own skin is incredibly dry after having two babies, and even then if I use both moisturiser and primer, my skin is wet all day. Could you moisturise in the evening? I personally mix my foundation and moisturiser together and apply after using a light primer.

Urban decay all nighter spray!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 03/07/2019 19:45

I have a similar problem, my make up looks great until lunchtime and then if I’m honest I really want to take it off again and reapply as suddenly my skin looks dry and crater like, I don’t have the time so would love to know if there is a way to keep it fresh looking, I look about 10 years older in the afternoon!

browzingss · 03/07/2019 19:55

Could you list the exact products that you use? I think it’s a product issue so don’t think you’ll be able to fix it without changing something unfortunately.

You might benefit from a translucent powder like Laura mercier’s to set your undereye area/nose properly though

Maraki · 03/07/2019 21:33

Sure! These are the products:

Moisturiser Avene Hydrance Riche
(Wait 10-15 mins while having breakfast)
Max Factor Smooth Miracle Primer
Estee Lauder Double Wear
Thick layer of Maybelline Fit Me concealer under eyes
(Wait 10 mins while deciding what to wear and get dressed, so concealer sets)
Dab concealer with beauty blender
Dust Guerlain Meteorites compact or loose powder to set everything
Then do eyebrows, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, blusher.

It’s as though the foundation and concealer just disappear from under my eyes and my nose. Like I didn’t put anything on in the morning. Granted, I put my makeup on at 06:30am and we are talking around 3 or 4pm, so that’s 10 hours later....so I am not surprised they disappear after so long, it’s just that I don’t know how to fix without looking cakey and get ‘bits’.
There is no way I could use Mac Studio Fix that was mentioned above under my eyes. I am nearly 50 and it would set into every wrinkle.

So would I need to use a better setting powder in the morning?

I suggest a better setting powder, especially as your foundation is disappearing. Meteorites is a finishing powder, not a setting powder - hence the lack of longevity.

I currently wear the no7 hydraluminous foundation and concealer (both dewy), and set them well, by pressing the powder into my skin with a velour puff, then brushing off the excess.
Even in the heat today, my foundation and concealer were still all in place later on.
I blot with blotting paper, and dust a bit more powder at lunch time.

My favourite powders are Etude house zero sebum powder, Innisfree no sebum powder, and Too face peach perfect loose setting powder.
All set my foundation, remove shine, reduce the appearance of pores and do not dry out the skin or pool in pores later in the day. I love powder, and wouldnt be without it.

LoafofSellotape · 04/07/2019 23:43

I use ELDW and then Lily Lolo powder on top to set it, it can stand a quick touch up at about 4 quite nicely but barely needs it.

I use Revlon Eye primer in a pen - like Touche Éclat it's great and you can use it throughout the day if necessary.

Maybe ditch the primer and see if your DW lasts longer without it,mine does.

Beautifullymixed · 05/07/2019 06:06

OP, I also have extremely dehydrated skin, prone to flakiness, especially when my rosacea flares up.
I use several layers of essences, a light moisturiser, and even a drop of squalene or rosehip oil under my hydrating foundation.
After setting with my powder (see post above), my foundation and concealer do not slip or slide, and still cover my redness all day.
You can use moisture/hydrating products under your foundation, especially if you want your foundation to blend beautifully and look like skin.
If I do not hydrate my skin first, the foundation sinks into pores and looks dry and dessert like as the day progresses. At 47, not a look I desire.
