I being taken my a client next week, not corporate hospitality but great tickets, lunch etc etc.
I need to be glam/smart but also comfortable enough for a long day with lots of travel and a fair bit of walking.
All
My dresses seem either too casual (white stuff/ boden) or too wedding-y
I have a jumpsuit but again it's pretty casual and especially with flats I'm. It sure it'll be smart enough
Argh I hate smart casual!!
All ideas gratefully received budget £100 or so

Hello! I would err on the casual side tbh, definitely steer clear of any of your dresses that you've described as 'wedding-y'... I've been before and it was a HOT day (if that makes any difference) and honestly the vibe was very casual - OK, a bit more glammed up/more effort made than just pottering to your local park or pub, but still very casual.

Perhaps think of the kind of thing you'd wear to a nice birthday bbq, that kind of thing?

Most men are in shorts (smart style but still shorts) and when I went most of the women were in strappy sundresses, linen trousers with cami top, floaty skirts, that kind of thing. Wedges at most (possibly not flip flops which tbf if you're going with a client you almost certainly wouldn't be thinking of anyway) or smart flat sandals/fresh clean trainers/ballet pump if you're keen to stay conservative?

If I were going tbhis week (warm weather but not baking) I'd wear a cotton/linen shirt-dress (my go-to summer frock) and flat Grecian-style sandals, a nice bag to look like I've made an effort, a straw hat and sunglasses.

I think a jumpsuit sounds perfect tbh (though I don't wear them myself, I'm too long in the body) and the only caveat would be the client you're going with, how formal/stuffy are they. And the other question, do jumpsuits actually work with flats or do they need a heel?

Boden/White Stuff type sundress sounds good too, just put a bit of thought into shoes/bag/hat/sunnies and it'll be fab.

Oh, Warehouse has lovely dresses in general and most probably in sale at the mo, I got a couple of my favourite shirt-dresses from there recently. Bet you'd only have to spend £30ish in sale.

Have an amazing time and don't worry too much about what you're wearing!!

Be comfy, there’s a lot of walking. No wedding day dresses but nice summer linen, i go every year, its really not a dressy occasion.

Or something like this OP

It's viscose though not linen/cotton, I personally am OK with viscose but I know some people hate it.

My style is v minimalist though so this might be boring, sorry!!

It's nice and cheap though and you could get some new flat sandals too! Mind you, if you're going to be walking a lot from station etc I might go with smart trainers anyway as sandals can rub. Something like a Superga or a slip-on trainer looks smart imo.

I'm so glad you've started this thread as I was going to start exactly the same! Thoughts on this dress? Is it too weddingy?

Now I have to be careful not to buy anything linked above or we're going to be wearing the same User!

HepburnKNotA · 02/07/2019 10:58

That's a pretty dress GodDammit but I'd steer massively clear because of the polyester factor. Not just because I personally find polyester horribly sweaty (I literally never wear it!) but because that same dress in cotton or linen would look more casual and less weddingy, in the polyester I think it has a much more wedding/smart evening garden party vibe.

With flat shoes/sandals it could work but I think it's too 'formal' a dress to wear with trainers.

It's a pretty style and colour but I just think the fabric makes it too sweaty and too formal!

Sorry, just my opinion though!!

Lucky you off to Wimbles!

Thanks Hepburn. You've confirmed what I was thinking. I was going to wear it with flat sandals. I am a massive sweater though (TMI) and am PARANOID about being a sweaty mess on the day!

GodDammitAmy · 02/07/2019 23:25

Sorry for crashing your thread earlier User - I've been looking today and Oasis have lots of lovely summer outfits, and a really good sale!

BeaLola · 03/07/2019 00:20

You can "dress" up your outfit by thinking about your accessories. I would say more casual there than dressy. I am going next week. If it's warm weather I will be wearing one of my Boden dresses , linen shirt for layering/cover up if gets more chilly on way back and my trusted supergas - I take one small bag with essentials this includes sunglasses, sun protection and hat, water and a can of chilled pimms in case I don't want to move from a match ( I went to East our new last week and spent just over 6hours on court before moving ) . To be be frank though I'm a frumpy middle aged woman but I don't do heels in heat or when I have to walk a lot. If I was going in the Royal Box I might rethink it Wink

@user1494670108 Did you get an outfit? When are you going?
