How to last all day in heels

NinetySixer · 30/06/2019 16:02

I love the look of heels and want to be able to wear them all day for work.

However I struggle to walk in them and end up look like a new born goal at risk of breaking my ankle.

Any advice?

Save your feet, your back, your ankles and your dignity and leave the shoes at home

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

I know they’re bad for you but I like how they look and covet pretty looking shoes

Don't get stupidly high shoes, depending on what your job role is, if you're on your feet all day, I'd suggest 3 inch maximum. I'd also suggest having a spare pare of flats with you if your feet start to hurt.

Gel cushions under the balls of your feet, make sure they're a good fit when you buy them and wear them in first.

It's usually good to wear them when you're doing the vacuuming as you're doing a whole range of movement, will also get you used to wearing heels in general.

Pair not pare sorry

Get ones with straps so your toes aren’t having to cling on.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/06/2019 16:26

Ninety

I cannot walk in them myself , or drive in them.

Shoe envy is A Thing .

I can't wear slip on like ballet shoes because of my stupidly narrow mobile feet either .

Do you wear anything like a kitten heel? Prettier than the chunky heels and easier to walk in.

And if you do wear heels stretch your calf muscles or they end up contracted and shortened over time .

A block heel is much easier to walk in than a slimmer heel, and looks more contemporary too. And if you have a slight platform sole that will give you extra height without extra tilt.

A PP mentioned kitten heels, I would give these a miss, in my experience they leave your centre of gravity in some strange no mans land and are absolutely lethal. I honestly find it easier to walk in 6inch stilettos than kitten heels.

And above all else, remember heels are not mandatory and you can still look fabulous without!

Wedge heels can be easier to wear.

GVmama · 01/07/2019 08:24

Yep,I would go for a wedge heel (lots of espadrille style wedges around at the minute) or a black heel. Both with an ankle strap.

I too have quite narrow feet and find pointed flats better than ballet pumps
I also have small chunky heel same style approx 2 inch and can wear them all day for work
I do wear high heels but only for occasions and not when I’m going to be standing for hours
Most shoes I buy seem to have some kind of padded insole these days and since I lost weight I’ve not found burning sensation on soles of feet an issue
For me keep changing shoes works best then my feet n legs don’t get too used to any particular heel height - so can walk ok in most things
Love it even more in winter as boots are so comfortable

escapade1234 · 01/07/2019 10:01

Can you wear wedges?

Life is too short for painful shoes. Admire from afar.

Did anyone see Kylie at Glastonbury and her heels yesterday?! Totally envy for the great look and that she was able to walk/dance in them! EnvyGrin

I agree that gel insoles and blister plasters (worn as a preventative measure) will go a long way into giving you more hours of comfort.

Block heels are more comfortable than skinnier heels, yes. If you want to wear stiletto style heels then keeps flats with you as a back up,

If you find all heels in general are uncomfortable, you might be buying the wrong size. With different brands and styles of heels, you might be more comfortable going a size up, Eg heels with a strap around the toes always ends up too tight as my feet expand during the day, so a size up is more comfortable.

You can get nice ones from Clarks/Ecco that have more padding and support for your feet - some are grannyish (sorry!) but some are stylish! I agree to go for a block heel and\or something with a platform under the toe so they don’t feel as high.
