White t-shirts

Can anyone suggest where I can buy a good white tshirt? Don't want it trendy, don't want it frumpy, don't want it too short. Just a straightforward well-cut plain t that looks more or less the same shape and size when it comes out of the wash as it was when it went in.

Why is it so hard to find?

BTW I've also posted this question to Hadley Freeman at the Guardian but I don't think it's quite existential enough to attract her interest.

Gap

american apparell's are good and posh spice (not that she's one to copy) wears a really good U.S make, C&C California I think (raved about by Hadley Freeman and the like, bit costly but last forever - I had a vest but lost it on holiday, damn foolish monkey!).

Petit Bateau - look good wash after wash. Yes, initially pricey, but wear for wear, a bargain because they do not loose shape and they are the loveliest, softest cotton. They do 16 ans and 18 ans (years) for women. Get in there now while the sale is still on!

The perfect white T is the holy grail isn't it.

Gap and C&C are both good suggestions(C&C do long torsos). I actually got a great one in Decathlon the sports shop a couple of years ago. It cost about £3 and is still going strong. Absolutely plain white, round neck and girl fitted. V. classic.

Zara - the cut will either suit you or it won't. If it does, they are great.

All good stuff, thank you. However, Gap have expelled themselves from my list of approved suppliers on account of their wildly inconsistent sizing, poor wash performance(hello - what shape is that?), and being too thin - especially as I am still in those ghastly Royce nursing bras.

Petit Bateau - no branch nearby and don't appear to sell ts online. I have often heard them described as home of the perfect specimen though, so more's the pity.

Am I being thick? C&C?

OK, used my initiative and found C&C California (sorry to be so dim). Sadly no white tshirts there, but I'll keep them in mind.

Let's hope Zara or America Ap now sell online, as neither are local for me. Further suggestions very welcome if anyone has one.

Best of luck. I will keep an eye out for you. Sometimes you find them in strange places (and later wish you had bought 3 or 4). I actually got a great white T with a scoop neck in BHS a few years ago. Well fitted and really thick cotton so your bra doesn't show through. Lasted for ages until dh put it in the wash with some rather leaky coloureds. Shouldn't complain - at least he does the laundry.

I wear both American Apparel and C&C. C&C is a slightly better cut for a lot more money and it's quite a lightweight cotton so it does go out of shape after a while.

This is my latest find. I've got a black one and it fits really well. It also washes really well as it's made of organic cotton.

American Apparel does sell online too although I buy mine from the London shops.

But be aware that not everything they have on the site is in stock. I tried to buy something instore that they said was available on the site and they shipped it from the US. It took 2 weeks. I wasn't too happy about that.
