Skincare newbie.... advice please!

My skin is dry/prone to break outs & very uneven in tone. I currently use Body Shop vitamin A cleanser morning & night and clarins hydra moisturiser every night which keeps it largely passable. However, I am approaching the age where I feel the need for some help with wrinkles/anti ageing.

I am tempted by retinol products but am concerned about the drying element.... could anybody please suggest a suitable mild product for a total skincare novice?

Also been advised that a serum containing hyluronic acid may be of benefit, do others agree & again could anybody suggest one?

Thanks in advance if anybody can help!

Try beauty pie as a great place to start with hyaluronics and gentle retinols. Also check out Caroline Hirons website for great advice.

If you're doing retinol you must use SPF50 every day (which is a good idea anyway!). That means you need to double-cleanse (oilbased cleanser first, then "normal" one) to remove all the SPF. I highly recommend the fantastic skin/snail thread on S&B, it's a very long running discussion with lots of resources in the first post.

Don't be taken in, it's about ingredients not brands, and you need to have a little knowledge to use retinols successfully!
