Summer silhouette: trousers

Ok so come Summer I feel I obliged to at least have my ankles out (wear jeans year round). But I really struggle with summer trousers. Too casual (hush cropped harems, hush Monaco trousers) and I look like I'm about to clean the house. Too smart -Boden Richmond crops and I look like I'm off to the office...chinos too baggy and casual, linen too see through, I just can't get it right. Paper bag trousers too much added to my already fat stomach. Help!

I would suggest you look at the outfit as a whole, because all of your disregarded options can be dressed up or down depending on tops and shoes. Chinos in particular, by which I'm guessing you mean a cotton trouser, come in all sorts of cuts and colours and can be really smart with a lovely linen top, blouse, silky vest and some smart flat sandals or maybe espadrille wedges. If you think they are too baggy, try a tapered 7/8 or ankle version:

or this pull on version is really comfortable (come up large):

Chinos also come flat fronted, and different rises depending on your body shape.

I think you're going to have to try lots on and I would encourage you to try shops you don't normally visit, even if its out of budget, because I don't think you've hit on anything to suit your body shape yet.

and buy better quality linen and some nude knickers if you don't want see though ;)
