Interview outfit

I haven't been for an interview since I started my current job, 15 or so years ago. I'm about to start interviewing again. What do you women wear for interviews these days? Manager level at large corporations, but not stuffy industries. What shoes if I can't do heels? I don't own a suit, and won't be buying one!

I would go for smart separates. So smart dress and jacket, but not matching. Or, slim ankle grazer trousers with a silky top and jacket. As you say, suits are a bit dated in all but the most corporate of environments.

Lots of high street shops will be good for this: whistles, Jigsaw, Hobbs, Zara.

Shoes and bag I would make sure are smart. I always notice, in a positive way, a nice/interesting handbag. A simple black court would take you through several different interview clothes combos.

I notice, in a less positive way: rumpled clothes that haven't seen an iron, messy fingernails, dirty or inappropriate shoes, strappy tops with too much cleavage.

Oh, and if you can get an idea of what people wear there. Google for pics of company events, or use linked-in. You could also just discretely hang around outside the office to observe but I'd assume you have better things to do with your time!

Thanks. Do you think heels are a requirement for an interview? I HATE wearing heels, especially as a commute will be involved. I currently wear Jean's and trainers for work so don't do business attire!
