rosacea

So my doctor recently diagnosed me with rosacea. I had known for ages I had it, my cheeks were turning very red and felt like they were on fire all the time no matter how much water I drank (people asked if I'd gotten too much sun and in winter they were trying not to look at them), and my nose was practically purple. before I went to him I had tried Roche Posay and Avene and Trilogy Rosehip oil, none helped, in fact the Avene felt like it was burning (although their Skin Recovery cream helped soothe the feel of it, not the colour though!) The doctor didn't want to prescribe me anything and then we realised he couldn't anyway as my bp is too low so we basically agreed I'd just live with it. I said to him about skin care and he kind o f looked very sorry and said he hadn't heard of anyone who'd had result and people generally just lived with it or hid it. I was wondering if anyone has any hope for me? I can live with it but it'd be great to find something, also if anyone has make up tips, I'd really rather not have to wear full make up all the time, are there cc creams or bb creams that can help? Sorry this is so long and thanks!

I suffer with rosacea and the only thing that ever clears it up for me when it gets bad is a course of antibiotics (lymecycline for 2-3 months) along with azelaic acid. Is low blood pressure a contraindication for antibiotics?

I’ve spent a fortune on beauty products for rosacea and while some of them do seem to suit my skin in my experience none of them will clear up a bad flare up, and none of them really reduce episodes of redness during the day.

Make up wise dermacol foundation is cheap as chips and fab for covering up, even when mine is at its worst. It is quite heavy though so I don’t tend to use it daily. Bare minerals is lighter for day to day use and quite effective too.

Just diagnosed, I'm interested to see people's advice

Sarah jagger the makeup artist has it and gave a good tutorial about her cosmetic routine and tips a few months ago.
She is on instagram so you might be able to ask her directly or google her. There was a skin care routine with all products listed. Im sure you are beautiful regardless, best of luck X

KTCluck Thanks! Yes, low no would be for what he was going to prescribe, he said they lower bp and given mine I'd be in danger of fainting.

Ohnooo hope you find something that helps

bonjourbonjour will look her out, thank you!!

I’d honestly go back and ask for a prescription, or a referral to a dermatologist. There are a number of different antibiotics or alternatives (I’ve never needed to try the alternatives) and I’d be surprised if low blood pressure rules everything out. There are also topical options too. GPs aren’t experts and I was lucky that the second one I saw had some experience and an interest in dermatology. I just put up with it for years, wasting money on lotions and potions and it just got worse. You don’t have to suffer.

Definitely go back! Some of the medications you could try antibiotics, metrogel, finacea and soolantra.
You also need to be gentle with your skin and repair your skin barrier, if your skin is hydrated and repaired then your rosacea will improve some. Imo you definitely need to repair your barrier before topical creams because some like finacea can be irritating when you first start using it.

I use cerave hydrating cleanser and eucerin 5% urea face cream, if I've been out and worn sunscreen/makeup then I cleanse with clinique TTDO balm first. It's really important to wear sunscreen every day because the sun can be a major trigger for rosacea. Mineral are best for us, I've used coola mineral cucumber spf30 and Australian Gold Botanicals mineral spf50.

See a different gp, it’s treatable.

KTCluck Fluffycloudland77 I thought he was a skincare specialist, hence a 7 wk wait to see him(!!!) But from what he gave me I'm just kind of bemused and disappointed so will totally find someone else although have to go back to him for something else in 2 months so will broach it again then too, thanks!!!
Mustbethin Thank you, will look into all of ths t. This morning I went and bought a different sun cream, started back withAvene antirougers and also bought Roche posay cc cream ( first impression not great but will see!) I now have basically my own mini skincare pharmacy but will look at a dressing the problem with food etc ( water has been my saviour to a certain extent but I am always quite well hydrated so ...) I don't know, thank you to all of you, sooooo much!
