Where do you buy nice men's clothes?

Please hit me with your recommendations!

Where do you shop for a man, early 40s, who wants to look good, but not old, wants quality, but can't afford anything too high end?

It's his birthday soon and I wanted to get him some bits today, but really struggled on the high street. Everything was either too young, too Love Island... but if you steer away from that you either end up in Hugo-Boss-money, or Ken-Barlow-old territory.

(and as a btw, this isn't a case of trying to change him, he genuinely struggles too, so sticks to sports brands poloshirts all the time!)

Try Fat Face - they do good hard wearing casual clothes for men. My dh goes there biannually and kits himself out. He doesn’t do fashion. The t shirts are really lovely.

My DH shops in All Saints (but very selectively as some of it is a bit young), ASOS, Paul Smith, Pretty Green - but always shops in the sale. He says ASOS is really good - when he sees something he like, he adds it to his favourites list and then sees when it goes on sale, then orders it. He is 46.

ASOS and Pretty Green have goos sales on now.

My other half is in his 30s and buys lovely clothes from Charles Tyrwhitt - they do amazing fitted shirts in all sizes, polos, chinos, jackets and jumpers. They all wash really well too and their non iron shirts are a game changer (they are smart and casual so not all suits) Definitely recommend

We are alternative in style so not everything will appeal but for nice quality try emp.

He has had some lovely jeans and shirts etc from there.

DH gets a lot of basics in Uniqlo.

Zara sometimes have nice men’s clothes, and crew clothing good for nice quality but not too pricey casual shirts. I second uniqlo, good for jumpers/jeans/chinos.

SimonJT · 24/06/2019 06:07

Allsaints is good, really nice clothes, cut well and reasonably priced.

EnormousDormouse · 24/06/2019 06:10

Another vote for Uniqlo - excellent quality basics, good quality cottons and linens and their 'tech' fabrics are good too.

Tommy Hilfiger is good quality, goes in the dryer (American brands are usually dryer friendly) and is not overly expensive.
