Recommend an exfoliate that actually works?

For legs and body rather than face? I can find anything that feels 'scratchy' enough!

Inbedbynine · 23/06/2019 16:53

St ives all the way!!

avalanching · 23/06/2019 17:00

I just use my usual shower gel with an exfoliation glove, can't beat those for scratchiness! I use a buffer brush thing too (when I can be arsed!)

TantricTwist · 23/06/2019 17:27

I just use a flannel which does the job perfectly.

lotusbell · 23/06/2019 17:28

I've gone back to a loofah but the best thing I has was a glove from an Elle McPherson body line Boots did years ago. Never found anything else as good and its clinging on for dear life. The loofah is good though. I like a lot of the Soap and Glory scrubs, they're pretty scrubby.

Hithere12 · 23/06/2019 17:32

Use a body bristle brush and dry brushing.

You don’t want anything too “scatchy” OP! You’re getting rid of healthy skin cells, which protect your skin's natural barrier.

Arealhumanbeing · 23/06/2019 17:36

You want a salt scrub.

Nice and scrubby but the salt melts in the water and doesn’t scratch your skin.

Sanctuary Spa do a couple of good ones and you can get them in Boots or Superdrug.

HippyChickMama · 23/06/2019 17:42

I was going to suggest Sanctuary salt scrub. You can make your own with coarse grain salt mixed with oil of your choice (sunflower, vegetable, coconut etc) and a few drops of essential oil

DerelictWreck · 23/06/2019 18:56

Hmmm I've tried st ives and thought it was rubbish. Santucary good but seemed to make the shower super slippery Grin

On the flannel - I use one but find it just goes really soft and gently when wet?

Get yourself a Korean Italy towel from ebay... My elbows and knees have never been smoother since I started using one!

buckeejit · 23/06/2019 19:10

These are super. I used one the other day after painting outside & getting covered in splashes-all dried & cane off easy. Feels so scrubby!

Ditch the manual exfoliants and go for the chemical option, much more efficient and less likely to cause trauma to the skin surface.

Something with exfoliating acids in, lactic, glycolic etc. Ameliorate body lotion is a classic (smells like sour milk though), or there are a few high street cheaper options that do a good job too.

Soap and glory 3in1 body lotion (also contains fruit acids for exfoliation) comes in a massive pump bottle and is reasonably priced.

Palmers do their old classic cocoa butter in an ‘anti ageing’ formula with alpha and beta hydroxy acids www.boots.com/palmers-cocoa-butter-formula-anti-aging-smoothing-lotion-250ml-10092191

I second the recommendation for a Salux Japanese wash cloth.

Leaves your skin soft and no mess from scrubs left behind in the shower.

Mokepon · 23/06/2019 19:34

You need Korea Italy Towels.
Reusable and leave your skin like a peach.
Recommended on here, haven't needed to buy any body exfoliant since.

CinnamonSweet73 · 23/06/2019 19:59

The Clinique Sparkle Skin in the tub is the best I've ever used, pricey though. Scrubby gloves next best option!

RuggyPeg · 23/06/2019 20:00

Garnier used to do a fabulous sugar scrub in a yellow bottle but the bastards discontinued it. Have struggled finding a really gritty one since then.

Dove (in a tub) is pretty good, as is Clinique sparkle skin (again, in a tub).

Other things to try:

Dry body brushing
Ameliorate
Acid toners (chemical exfoliators). I use the cheap Aldi dupes of pixi.

RuggyPeg · 23/06/2019 20:02

X posts re sparkle skin!

I don't get the Korea Italy towels. They do literally nothing for me. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong though. I only have showers, not baths and I think you use them after a soak in the bath.

DerelictWreck · 23/06/2019 20:05

Are acid toners ok on all skin types? I have dry/dehydrated skin (can't conclude which, maybe both) and acid seems counterintuitive some how?!

HelloJuly · 23/06/2019 20:10

Ameliorate lotion.
Skip the super scratchy stuff.

CinnamonSweet73 · 23/06/2019 20:11

Great minds on the sparkle skin!!
I've never tried the Korean Italy towels either, it's shower only in my house and I think you do need a bath.

TacoFlavouredKisses · 23/06/2019 20:25

I only have a shower and the Korean Italy towels are the business.

PolkadotLollipop · 23/06/2019 20:25

Yes, acid toners are fine on dry/dehydrated skin. Either use an acid body lotion or use a liquid acid toner then follow with a rich body lotion/cream an hour or so afterwards.

RuggyPeg · 23/06/2019 20:28

Taco - how do you do it then? I've tried them dry, wet, with shower gel, without.....and nothing seems to happen.

I mean, I'm no expert but I'm going with yes on the acid toner!!!!! If you're cautious, mix a bit with your body moisturiser to see how you get on at first. It's a game changer though!

DerelictWreck · 23/06/2019 20:32

Can anyone recommend a specific toner/ body lotion? I'm already confused!

OP posts:
RuggyPeg · 23/06/2019 20:52

Acid toner - buy the cheap Aldi dupes.

Ameliorate is an acid body lotion. Nip n fab do one too and I think Paula's choice but I just make my own using the Aldi acid and retinol toners.
