Replacing enviro unfriendly products

I'd like to replace a lot of my beauty products and toiletries with environmentally friendly products. Please share what you have replaced some of your products with.

I am stumped as to how I can replace my main culprits:

Wet wipes
Toilet wipes
Ear buds
Cotton pads to remove mascara

I use a flannel to take makeup off, with the garnier micellar water. Far far better than wipes and feels like it's giving my face a good scrub too.

I just spray the toilet seat etc and wipe with toilet roll but could also use a cloth and put on a hot wash.

I don't use cotton buds they shouldn't be put in ears! My ears are kept clean by soaks in the bath.

What do you use wet wipes for? If it's makeup, try face halo. Works amazing on removing all makeup and you just throw them in the wash.
I've never bought toilet wipes so I'm not sure what they are? I just use a cloth and scrubby.
Have also never used cotton buds but you can buy eco friendly ones

We only use wet wipes at home for baby's poo. Wee changes - we bought cheap flannels from £ land and use them as reusable wipes.

Household anti bac wipes - replaced with cloths. For the bathroom it's blue for loo, pink for sink. All cloths just get chucked in the machine straight after use and come out fine.

Cotton buds - I believe they sell cotton buds with cardboard sticks now.

Face wash options: soap, lush products, Vaseline or coconut oil on a flannel for eye make up removal.

All of the above works well for me but I'm sure you'll find your own way of doing things Smile

Wet wipes - a flannel or cloth wipe

Toilet wipes - I just stopped using them

Cotton ear buds - you can fins plastic free ones, mine are from Ocado

Cotton wool to remove make up - I bought some washable pads from Ebay they work really well.

I use muslin cloths to clean my face. I buy them from the body shop, but I used to have loads of liz Earle ones.

I recently bought reusable cotton pads from eBay, which work well.

With both the wipes and pads, I chuck them in the wash with my whites so it doesn't cause me any extra work.

Yes, muslin wipes. I buy a jar of coconut oil, whisk it up with some almond oil and put it in old plastic tubs (don't trust myself with glass jars and oil). Slap on and wipe off with muslin that's been dunked in hot water. You can buy packs of muslin cloths cheaply from Amazon or eBay. Like pp, I throw them in with white towels on a hot wash. The coconut oil removes eye make up too. I

Old face flannels, dishcloths or whatever can be used as cleaning cloths. I keep some specifically for the toilets. Also go in the washing machine.

Have you swapped to bar soap and shampoo? Any suggestions for bars of shampoo?

MaudesMum · 23/06/2019 19:36

You can get cotton ear buds - which have cardboard stems - and you can also buy organic cotton pads which are a good intermediate step before moving to something reusable. I'm gradually phasing out shower gel and liquid hand wash and replacing them by hard bars of soap, but haven't yet found a replacement for the shampoos I like to use. It's worth visiting your local health food shop for some of this stuff - they tend to have a lot of useful products.

Konjac sponge instead of cotton wool pads

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 24/06/2019 06:06

Count Fosco, am considering swapping to solid shampoos myself. Can't speak from personal use, but friend was raving about the 'Head Cave Mop Top' bar, from Primal Suds.

Bianca, ooh, thanks for 'Face Halo' tip-off! Had never heard of it, but am now intrigued to see if it works for me as well as the demo vid claims.
