Summer jackets, alternative to thin pac-a-macs?

Yesterday I wore blue jeans, black vest and converse. I had my hair in a low hun and wore big sunglasses. It should look chic but because I'm an 18-20 I tend to catch a glimpse and think I look cheap Sad, made much worse by the Primark pac a mac style jacket I wore. I people watched and realised that pac a macs generally look cheap and only a few skinny perfectly honed women look classy in them!

So what alternatives are there for a lightweight jacket that I'm missing? I'm currently looking at smart shirts that can be worn open. I think blazers are generally foot thick and too dressed up for day to day wear? Cardigans can be thin but I tend to think they look frumpy?

So,
What would you wear with a simple outfit to keep chic?

I used to wear my anorak as a lightweight jacket when it was too chilly to wear nothing/raining. It made me really, really sad! I solved the problem by buying a raincoat from Seasalt. It is still waterproof, but just looks so much better and I no longer feel sad!

If too warm for a jacket I wear linen or raw silk shirts as a cover up

I have a ‘baby Barbour’ for summer, basically their lightweight jacket similar to this one: www.barbour.com/uk/barbour-lightweight-acorn-wax-jacket-dark-olive

It’s great because it is waterproof, but light enough to wear when it’s warmer. Bit pricey but they last and last and have a really good resale value. Goes with most outfits as well and you can dress it up or down. Well worth the investment.

I have a pale olive green jacket and also a navy one, similar to the pic above. The olive one must be about nine or ten years old by now but still looks fine. I think a decent lightweight jacket is one of those things that pays for itself many times over so when you do see one, even if it's a bit spendy, it's definitely worth it.
