Is a 'shag' type hairstyle either horribly out of fashion and/or too 'young' for a 43 yo?

I'm clueless. All I know is that the smoothish waves my hairdresser puts into to every haircut she gives me are impossible to recreate with my shitty straighteners and general cack-handedness. My hair is fine and lacks body. I'm thinking some kind of layered shag type of cut that doesn't need specifically curled would be both easier and more flattering by creating a little volume around my face. Something which could be scrunch dried. Any opinions? I'll try and find photos to illustrate the type of cut I mean.

I think it's best to work with the hair you have. if your hair is naturally a bit curly, then find a haircut that will suit your hair. I have had eternal fights with my curly super thick hair for years, trying to straighten it or having haircuts that didn't suit my actual hair but now I feel a lot better with natural curls. It's about finding the right products and see if you would be happy with the 'curly girly' method (no shampoo or sulphate free shampoo). Some hair stylists are a lot better than others at cutting naturally curly hair too so you might want to ask around.

Thanks Queen. I don't have curly hair, sorry if that came over in my post! It's vaguely wavy at best, which I prefer to encourage, rather than straighten.

I've just had a choppy blunt bob for these reasons - fine, wavy hair with loads of it. Am same age as you.

It's ok. I haven't got product right on it really but it can blow dry 'neat' for smart work stuff and then scrunch dry for normal days.

I have also had success in emulating my 9 year old and plaiting it when wet. Has given me a relaxed shaggy wavy look v v easily.

Mine is similar to Alexa Chung but longer. I can make it more waves by scrunching it when I dry it or blow dry it straight.

I don’t use straighteners.
