Rhinoplasty?

I think it's about time to sort out my nose - has anyone had a nose job, and could you share your experiences with me? What was the process like? Where did you have it done? How much did you pay? Can you share any useful resources, for research?

Thanks in advance. :)

I'm having exactly the same thoughts! I've been looking generally at the process on YouTube and at specific surgeons on RealSelf. I did have a consultation about a year ago, free of charge. It was useful to find out what type of operation I would need etc. I want to go and see some other surgeons to satisfy myself that the previous one I saw is good if you know what I mean. What stage are you at with it? Do you have funds together? A time you have in mind to do it?

I'm thinking of going to Poland, actually - I know the Polish surgeons are good. I have the funds together, yes, just want to ensure that I'm choosing my surgeon wisely. I haven't yet looked at the process really, I decided to have it done for definite yesterday (I tend to do that, I make a spontaneous decision then set the plan in motion).

I had a lovely nose from the front and ok side profile from the right , yet from the left it was horrendous from a previous nose break from years before that had left a horrible bump that you looked hideous from the side .

Back in 2015 , I had saved the money to have what I considered a dream operation and couldn't wait to be absolutely over the moon and full of confidence post op . I was very specific and had requested my actual nose not to be changed or altered as I loved the frontal view but just for that bump to be taken away . Surgeon agreed. Fabulous German surgeon with a lot of experience and 2 or 3 procedures a day . Booked into a well known company in the UK.

Op went fabulous and the care whilst in the hospital was wonderful - overnight stay . However the recovery took much longer than I could of imagined and I would say my face/ nose didn't feel 'normal' for a good 12 months or so after with swelling etc the slightest bang of my cheek or face would bring out the black/ yellow eyes again and would puff everywhere out . I thought it would be just my nose affected but it was my entire face - cheekbones , the brow .

My nose was exactly what I had asked for , no different at the end but with that awful bump taken out yet it took me ages to accept my face as it didn't look like me or feel like me which was the opposite of what I'd imagined .

If I could go back I wouldn't of had it done . I know that isn't really helpful or what you asked but just my experience of rhinoplasty .

I've also since the op had continuous rhinitis and problems with my sinuses even though the surgery itself there were no problems with and no infection after etc

Sorry , paid £4,500 x

Zoe2411 · 21/06/2019 13:17

It won't let me post a pic but I could of shown you how horrific it look the morning after I'd had it and then 12 months later / before shot .

Not sure why it won't let me ? X

Mine cost £5k but so very pleased with it. Had it done with spire in Manchester I believe but it was a while ago now. Minimal bruising lovely result. I don’t think I’d risk abroad. I read every review about my surgeon before choosing one but worth every penny.

Best thing I ever did.

Mine was years ago though, in 1995. I had it done in the private wing at Guy's hospital in London, and it cost about £2500. I had a mega huge bump taken out of the bridge of my nose, and the overall shape altered so that the tip turned up, not down. Basically got rid of my large hook nose.

I have had absolutely no problems since, apart from some numbness at the very tip of my nose, and my nose runs more than it used to. Neither of these things are a problem for me.

My post-op recovery was great. I went home 24 hours after surgery (on a packed commuter train argghh!). I was very bruised and sore, but not actually in pain - all I needed was paracetamol. Plaster cast came off two weeks later - that hurt like hell when the surgeon took the plaster strips off my nose! I then cried for ages when I saw my new reflection - I absolutely hated it, I thought I looked "piggy" as, for the first time, my nostrils were visible from the front (previously m nose turned down so you couldn't see them straight-on).

Within a day I was totally used to it and just felt like "me." It felt like coming home. Like the face I was always meant to have.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Oh - my surgeon was a guy who specialised in facial reconstruction for accident victims, burns victims etc for the NHS. I wanted someone who really understood why I was there. Back then, the hospital policy was that you had to have at least one counselling session before they would do the operation. When I walked in for my first consultation, the surgeon took one look at me, said "I can see why you're here, you don't need counselling, I can do it next week" .... !!!!! I was flabbergasted, offended, relieved and gutted all at once. I'd had years of total strangers shouting abuse at me about my appearance, and this guy just got it. I cannot remember his name!

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 21/06/2019 13:30

@Karigan195 - hah, I'm actually Polish so don't mind 'risking' it abroad - our surgeons are really no worse than the British ones, our hospitals aren't butcheries either... it's a European country, we even have colour TVs! :D :D :D

I had my nose job around 20 years ago and I'm so glad I did. I asked my GP about it and he did a private referral for me, to the local NHS plastic surgeon. That way I knew I was getting the best doctor. The surgery was carried out in the local BUPA hospital within a few weeks. I paid £1800.

The bruising was awful and it was pretty painful for 3 or 4 weeks. It was kind of that throbbing nerve pain. The worst of the bruising was gone in 2 to 3 weeks and it took a few months for all the swelling to settle.

I still am so pleased I had it done. The only downside is that I've been left with a lot of spider veins. I find them quite noticeable so I use s super strength concealer to hide them.

Karigan195 · 21/06/2019 19:27

@CoffeeMilkNoSugar. Lol I wasn’t thinking of polish surgeons being awful but more difficult to find the good ones if you don’t speak the language/live there. So for you maybe polish would be better!

Karigan195 · 21/06/2019 19:44

Ps note my post was about being able to check reviews etc on the surgeon I chose. That’s what I meant.

Mammajay · 21/06/2019 19:52

I had mine done but wasn't happy so the surgeon did it again. Still not perfect. Choose your surgeon carefully
