£1200 to spend on..

I’ve recently inherited a small amount from a much loved aunt.

She’d stipulated that I made sure some was saved just for fun spending on me, not the DC! Leftover I have approx £1200 to play around with, and as my aunt was a fabulous dressmaker and all round style queen I think a wardrobe update would be a fitting tribute.

I don’t really wear proper jewellery (I can’t at work) and have a work uniform so non office stuff. I’ve got my eye on a cashmere scarf but aside from that I’m a bit stuck. I do love trainers but that seems a little boring.

I’m 5ft 4, 10-12, hourglass shape.

If I had that money and no idea how to spend it, I wouldn't spend it for the sake of it. I would wait with that money ring fenced for something lovely for me. And something lovely would eventually come up. Nobody else's suggestions are relevant. Whatever luxury stylish item you want is key.

And if the most luxury and indulgent item you could buy was not a fashion item, but instead a puppy or a kitchenaid etc, then that would be in the right spirit. Don't jump into it, see what you actually have your heart's desire.

All saints or Massimo Dutti leather jacket.
Penelope Chilvers boots.
Good handbag
cashmere scarf.

What about (literally) a new wardrobe - a beautiful vintage piece of furniture. I bought a lovely Edwardian one from eBay for about £500 and it brings me pleasure every time I look at it.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 20/06/2019 04:14

Oh what a lovely tribute! So fitting. I think something really luxurious, classic, and long lasting that will remind you of her every time you wear it. I think an All Saints leather jacket. Or some fuck off amazing shoes.

BikeRunSki · 20/06/2019 05:22

A really nice watch

SuddenBeetE · 20/06/2019 15:19

Love the idea of an actual wardrobe or piece of furniture but I’m lucky enough to have a walk in wardrobe —totally wasted on me so the ironing pile lives in there—

Had a wander around the shops at lunch and came back with a throw on shirt dress, a pair of Levi’s and a hot pink coat that made me feel all twirly and grown up. I’m going to save the rest and have a think on.
I did try on an All saints jacket so thanks for those who suggested, it just didn’t feel right.

Will try and attempt to add pics

Actually if it was me I’d be putting the whole thing into a Chanel or Dior fund, for sure! But I know you said you’ve got loads of bags.

Oh wait. Maybe I’d buy a beautiful piece of vintage jewellery and a vintage watch.

Or a bangle from Georg Jensen.

So many possibilities! 😊😊

Ninkaninus · 20/06/2019 15:22

All saints is too heavy for me. But I’d definitely keep looking at leather jackets. I need one in burgundy and one in taupe.

I love your pink coat! ❤️

Rather than getting a few pieces which might last for a few years, I’d get one single thing that will last for years and years - if it were me it would be a Burberry trench. Or a watch. Or jewellery - although note you don’t wear much, how about diamond studs or something?

MaudesMum · 20/06/2019 18:09

That's a lovely coat! I was going to say "coat". I spent more money than I usually do on a decent coat from Jaeger a couple of years ago, and every time I wear it I feel great.

Potatopia · 20/06/2019 19:45

If you'd really like to honour your aunt and gain a fun hobby, you could buy a sewing machine, patterns, fabric, and a dressmaking course for starters?

handbaghoarderr · 20/06/2019 20:46

Balmain blazer or a Louis Vuitton bag.

GoldenNoodle · 21/06/2019 22:53

I would buy a beautiful ring that I could wear every day.

A scarf from Liberty.

A good quality bag or wallet.

The ring or a piece of jewellery would be my favourite as it would be a long-lasting keepsake.

sergeilavrov · 22/06/2019 01:14

I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt. She sounds a lot of fun.

I'd second a Burberry trench, one of my favourite ever purchases. Nothing keeps me in shape like the investment in that coat either! Another personal favourite is my Max Mara camel coat. Beware a coat addiction though! It's a vicious cycle. I also cannot recommend Louboutins (So Kate or Pigalle) enough. It's a ridiculous purchase that excites me every time I put them on, even years later.

LunaTheCat · 22/06/2019 14:07

How lovely - your aunt sounds amazing and the gorgeous coat you bought a fitting tribute.

sleepwhenidie · 22/06/2019 14:16

Would you enjoy a beautiful pair of silk pyjamas..,Olivia Van Halle or Yolke or similar?
