Urgent clothes suggestions size 22 going to wimbledon

wimbledonwardrobeforabiglass · 19/06/2019 18:47

Hello. Ive name changed for this to draw attention to my plight Smile

Basically. I am size 22, 5ft 7 and 54 years old

Weight has been creeping up but had health problems last year which had impact on mobility and have gone up to size 22. I’m slowly starting to lose weight but need a few wardrobe items for this summer.

I’m 5ft 7 with big boobs (40f/g)and stomach has got bigger too - oh and arse is larger than it was. I live in jeans, long tops, loose shirts/tunics and deliberately haven’t bought any new clothes in 2019 as want to wait until get down at least a couple of sizes.

I’m going to Wimbledon the week after next and then to Hampton court flower show a few days later so need at least one new outfit or maybe 2.

I hate trying on in shops so my preference is online shopping.

My style is simple and not really “fashion” as I prefer items that last and look simple but can dress up with a necklace/earrings/scarf.

I feel stuck as I’ve spent time the last few weeks looking online but haven’t got any further than looking. What I really need is a personal shopper (or shoppers) and so here I am Wink.

All advice/suggestions welcome please

Oh - and I actually hate wearing my jeans because they seem to accentuate my overhang which has become more visible due to stomach size increasing - so any suggestions of alternative trousers or good jeans would be super. I’m currently wearing per una jeans

When I was a size 22, I shopped mainly at Boden, Poetry (drapey, natural fabrics, often elasticated waists - but not cheap and the focus is on very soft colours, so depends what suits you), Navabi, Scarlett&Jo. What do you feel comfortable in - dresses/separates/types of shoes etc as that will all drive where you look. Budget? Loads of people will suggest personal shopping at JL, Debenhams etc. I found that THE most depressing experience as they don’t stock much in bigger sizes. She was clearly dredging the barrel to find anything for me to try and kept saying ‘we tend only to have bigger sizes online’

PeoniesarePink · 19/06/2019 19:01

I'm a similar size OP, and love
Box 2 clothing www.box2.co.uk/ ,
Adini London www.adinilondon.co.uk/ and
Boden www.boden.co.uk

Other good one is Peter Hahn but delivery can be a bit on the slow side www.peterhahn.co.uk

ilovecherries · 19/06/2019 19:02

Box2 is another place worth looking at, they used to sell gorgeous drapey silk jersey tunics.

wimbledonwardrobeforabiglass · 19/06/2019 19:53

Thanks for messages. I will look at suggestions.
I tend to wear blues ( some sea salt stuff)

My style is casual. Jeans out of habit but also would wear linen trousers. I like the idea of a printed linen peg trouser as I had some a couple of years ago from M&S but can’t see any I like at present.

Budget. £150 ish

Boden is really my 'go to' at the moment...

Youwanapizzame · 19/06/2019 20:12

How about something like wide leg trousers/culottes and a plain t. Comfy, smart and timeless

Deathraystare · 20/06/2019 08:42

Would you consider a simple dress, OP? I think M&S have some nice casual ones at the momen

Shock Horror! No viscose!!! I won't tell 'em if you won't!!

Spent ages in Monsoon yesterday - lovely dresses but most Viscose or Lyocell. Pain in the arse.

Deathraystare · 20/06/2019 08:44

Yes, actually M&S have a lot of good stuff around. I still have to check the labels as they also tend to be addicted to viscose but I got some lovely linen cropped trews from there last year but they still do them.

The dresses are nice too.

wimbledonwardrobeforabiglass · 21/06/2019 13:10

Thanks for messages. I don’t think I can wear a dress. I never do so would rather feel comfortable in familiar type of outfit.

I’m really struggling to find anything as M&S online just has too much stuff

I just want a simple, stylish outfitSmile

If anyone can suggest an outfit including a lightweight top and jacket and trousers I would. Be so grateful. I’m sat feeling tearful with so many screens open on my laptop with too much clothing to choose from or to know what works together

Any good? Both these sites might be worth a look around. So sorry you're feeling teary, I know the feeling Flowers

CosmicVagina · 21/06/2019 15:08

How about something from vivid linen, you can 'shop the look' and buy a whole outfit www.vividlinen.com/feature/shop-the-look

I like these two

Frondy · 21/06/2019 15:36

The vivid linen stuff looks lovely.

I love this (although it might be a bit warm for a day at Wimbledon) https://www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/black-short-sleeve-zip-tee-dress/xf026/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=9063#colour:Black,size:

I'm your size and wear it with leggings/tights and get lots of compliments.

This is nice if you like blues https://www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/joe-browns-ribbed-dress/yg008/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=9063#colour:Cobalt,size:

Sforsh49 · 23/06/2019 00:13

What about Phase Eight? They go upto size 26 and have lovely stuff. This top would hide your muffin top you describe (which I'm sure there's only you notices 😊)

As would this

These trousers on sale

And this cover up

Also have a browse of the maxi dresses, you'll be surprised how comfortable you may feel in one, and that cover up will go with anything! Have a fabulous time I'd love to go to Wimbledon!

Some of the linen things are very nice but not for Wimbledon. You spend most of the time squashed into smallish seating - you’ll look like you need a good iron by the end of the first match. Unless you’re in the hospitality areas Wimbledon is not somewhere you have to get dressed up - wear something comfortable!

Ratonastick · 23/06/2019 11:10

There was a previous thread for Wimbledon which you may be able to find. The consensus was layers (temperatures can vary wildly), hat/sunglasses/sunscreen plus a jacket or sweater. Suggestions included wide legged trousers, nice t shirt or loose top, denim jacket. Having been many times, I think linen would be perfect for lower half (and my personal experience is the fatter my arse, the fewer the creases) with a lightweight cotton top and a jacket plus a scarf for drafts or sun cover. The most important thing is comfy shoes as there is a fair amount of walking involved. All these things apply to RHS shows too.

Actually scrub that, the most important thing is to have a really good time. No one else will look at your clothes, size or anything. Just have a brilliant time.

This www.navabi.co.uk/product/striped-maxi-dress-58859/?colorcode=0706 with a navy cardigan is one of my favourite go to outfits this year. It looks more drapey and elegant on me than on the model - I'm 5'9. I wear it with silver leather Converse
