The Most Nondescript Hair There Ever Was

As per the attached!

I've recently lost almost 2stone and am feeling great apart from my sad lacklustre hair!

I have an appointment booked on Friday and I need inspiration for both style and colour.

My natural colour is dark brown with a few greys so I do need some colour, however I don't think blonde is working as it seems rather brassy (though it is 2 months since my last appointment)

As you can see I have a disproportionately large forehead and round (though less round than it was) face which I think means none of the styles you see it magazines etc would suit me.

Needs to be low maintenance ish due to hectic life.

What would you ask the hairdresser for if you were me? (Don't say shave it all off Grin)

Well, I'd have a fringe for a start, which would balance out your forehead. You'll need some layers cut in to add volume, and highlights of some kind to perk up the colour - unless you fancy going really blonde (prob too high maintenance for you). Go to a reputable hairdresser with a decent amount of experience (Style Director level - short cuts are skilled and difficult) and see what they say.

wiltingflower · 19/06/2019 18:09

I think I'd ask for a fringe and a blunt trim on the ends of your hair but ask for your hair to be kept as long as possible. I wouldn't ask for layers.

Would you like to return to your natural hair colour? I'm thinking going back to brown means that when you have regrowth, you can cover up greys temporarily with one of those sprays when you don't have time to get your roots done.

wiltingflower · 19/06/2019 18:10

*one of those sprays

I mean a root touch up spray 😊

RagingWhoreBag · 19/06/2019 18:26

Congrats on your weight loss Flowers

Agree with the fringe plan - and make sure it’s a blunt thick fringe not a little wispy one! And then some waves at the side will make it look styled and give a bit of body.

You could sleep with soft rollers/rags in the sides for a low maintenance do in the morning.

Colourwise I’d go back to your natural colour as it will look glossy and gorgeous in a dark brown (maybe some lighter/caramel colours at the ends in a balayage style? Don’t know if that’s still a thing or a bit 2017/18 now, but it looks gorgeous, so I don’t care!)

Then buy a new dark Matt lipstick and you’ll be set with a gorgeous new image!

BogglesGoggles · 19/06/2019 18:28

I would opt for a fringe with feathered bangs (just a little to frame your face) and maybe more of a chestnut brown colour.

petitdonkey · 19/06/2019 18:30

I wouldn't go for a fringe - too hard to look after.

I think if you went very slightly shorter then tonged it into loose waves it would look really modern.

Bit like this

RagingWhoreBag · 19/06/2019 18:30

This kind of thing.

No fringe!

I had the same problem as you OP! What I’ve done recently which I’m really happy with is this; cut it into a short bob, with a side parting, I mean really quite short, like chin length. I am also very short on styling time so I tend to run the straighteners over it for 2-3 mins and that gives it a nice sharp, smooth look. (You save time on washing as it’s short so use it for straightening)

Mine is very thin so I can’t afford a fringe iyswim but if you have a fuller head then a fringe with short dramatic bob would look cool.

WRT to the colour, mine is also mousy-dark brown with grey so I get the hairdresser to dye it a chestnut colour (like my own but richer) and put just a few gold/honey highlights in.

I can’t believe how many people have commented on my new style! To be honest I think my old lank brown shoulder length thin hair must have been even worse than I thought!!!

lhastingsmua · 19/06/2019 23:39

Get a blunt one length cut (no layers) for extra thickness. Don’t get much length taken off. I wouldn’t go for a fringe - they’re outdated Blush The current bob trend is to keep the hair around your face the same length as the rest or longer. I would grow the hair around your face out instead, but switch to a centre part for something new. Less maintenance than a fringe. You can get the hair around your face framed a bit.

For colour, either go more blonde & ashy or go back to brown! A nice, glossy brown would really uplift your look but if you enjoy the light colour, get a balayage & root tint, where your roots/lengths would be tinted to your natural colour and you then have freehand highlights (more ashy & blonde) painted on for a seamless transition. Both options are low maintenance.

Your hair looks a bit dry - definitely worth getting a salon treatment at your visit so it looks extra shiny & healthy. (You could also use hair masks at home!)

Acunningruse · 20/06/2019 19:44

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the feedback. I definitely agree that it's looking dry and I would say I'm leaning towards going darker to try and achieve glossier, more shiny healthier looking hair.

Regarding fringe I have had them on and off for years but because my hair has a natural wave i can just never get it looking as nice at home as when the hair dresser does it. Even when I've requested a full fringe it just seems to end up wavy and wispy and then ends up being pushed to the side.

Appointment is tomorrow, eek!

No fringe. I have decide (from the little that I can see of you) that you have a likeness for Emilia Clarke. I prefer her as a brunette but not too dark.

So excited for you! Flowers Please post a photo of your new look afterwards!

StCharlotte · 20/06/2019 22:54

I wouldn’t go for a fringe - they’re outdated

I disagree. Fringes are timeless. Some people and some cuts look a million times better with a fringe. It's a bit like saying long or short hair is outdated.

I would have recommended a fringe but OP already knows it won't work for her.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/06/2019 11:42

I wouldn't advise a fringe for you to be honest OP- the way the hair on your hairline and parting sits I think would make one a nightmare and your hair isn't thick enough to achieve a blunt full fringe. I also think it would draw attention to a round face, with such a sheer length.

I'd focus on conditioning it and removing the brazier tones in the blonde, or take it do a light brown instead to enhance the shine. Are you trying to grow it out? If so the Lee Stafford hair growth treatment is good.

I also think wearing your hair in a wave would make it look fuller, it's on trend and easy to do.

Acunningruse · 21/06/2019 18:38

The finished result! Bit of a shock after being so blonde but it looks so much healthier.

Thanks all, still getting used to it!

RagingWhoreBag · 23/06/2019 17:20

Yes! Much prefer that colour - has it changed the clothes you want to wear too? I find when my hair colour changes it makes me feel totally different.

lhastingsmua · 23/06/2019 21:18

Looks really sophisticated! Definitely looks very healthy.

BillywigSting · 23/06/2019 21:22

That looks lovely op, even without seeing your face properly you look ten years younger! The colour is spot on and the fringe is nice too, gives balance without being too drastic. And well done on the weight loss too!
