I have fine hair that goes horribly puffy in this humid weather. Drives me bonkers. Will I benefit from a keratin salon treatment or will it leave my hair limp? I don't like the sleep look, I just don't want my hair to be a frizzy mess every day. Is there something I can use at home?

I’m not a hairdresser but I have the same problem - barely any hair but if frizzes up to enormous proportions in humidity. It is the worst hair ever. Nothing I have tried at home (and I have tried a lot) has helped more than a tiny bit. I am about to have a keratin straightening treatment purely because o can’t stand the sight of myself at the moment and at least it will make my hair smooth which takes one bit of the horribleness away. However, I know from having this done a few times before that it highlights how thin my hair is. Not ideal but the frizz is out of control at the moment - it looks like stringy brown candyfloss right now.

You could try this? I haven't used it but I have used the protein one in the range which is excellent

I'm a qualified hairdresser but the salon I worked in when I was a working hairdresser never offered Keratin blow-drys. I have used them on myself but tend to only reach for them when I'm going abroad and going to be jumping in and out of a pool or in extra humid environments.

I also have fine, puffy hair and find they leave my hair slightly too flat unless I spend 40 minutes blow drying it. If you do go for one ask them to leave an inch or so around the root area so you still have some volume and get them to slightly bend the ends under when they're setting it with the flat irons. That helps combat some of the flatness they cause on fine hair.

I manage fine in the UK using silicone based styling products. Wella Reflections Oil and Osmo deep moisture leave in spray are what I reach for day to day. For nights out I use a blow-dry lotion by Wella. The exact name escapes me. Look for one with silicone high up on the ingredients list. It creates a barrier around the hair and prevents moisture from the air ruining your style and despite current opinion silicone is not the Devil's work. It's super helpful for frizz prone hair. Without it I doubt I'd get a brush through mine most days. It all washes out and does not build up or harden on the hair.

Not a hairdresser but have had keratin smoothing treatments on my fine hair. For me, it absolutely does leave my hair limp and weighed down. It was straight, smooth and sleek to the point that I had no volume so my hair looked extra fine.

It was a shame as all I wanted to do was wash it out as my hair looked permanently greasy or like it needed a wash; my hair only started to look presentable again when the treatment started to wear off so I didn’t really get to enjoy it.

On the plus side, it stayed consistently straight all the time inc in humid weather so there was less styling time involved. It dried faster and was super shiny. But it was too much for my hair. Also didn’t enjoy using sulphate free shampoo as I didn’t feel like it cleaned my scalp enough.

Thank you everyone. It sounds like I will regret it. Frequency thank you for suggesting some products, I'll look them up.
