Cruelty free cosmetics please

I thought this was done and dusted in the UK but just reading about brands that are now selling to China have to have their cosmetics tested on animals which is just awful.

Can anyone please recommend a decent foundation especially that can be used by those of us with these concerns?

TIA

Hey, my friend buys tropic makeup in like a pallet holder and you can buy refills.

There's eyeshadows and primers and all sorts. I'm told (and their literature says) it's all vegan and cruelty free. It looks nice on her and the coverage seems good.

Not sure about staying power have not used it myself.

I don’t think they’re are any because every product derivative has to be tested on animals so you may have a company stating they are vegan cruelty free etc but dig deap you will find that the derivatives the product is made from will have been tested on animals at some point during its certification. Happy to be corrected

Towelsareblue · 17/06/2019 18:43

Thank you.

Just doing a bit of research and companies like The Ordinary state that they don't test ingredients on animals so wonder if that makes them completely cruelty free?

The Ordinary is now owned by Ester Lauder I think the products components have to be tested on animals before they get certified fit fir humans so the Ordinary MAY not but the source will have it’s a minefield

You need to look for something that has the Leaping Bunny cruelty free logo/accreditation. I decided to go cruelty free a few years ago after I discovered the whole China testing thing too. Most things I have found replacements for but foundation is one thing I’ve just stopped wearing as I can’t find one to suit...it was actually really easy to give up!! I use a cruelty free primer instead now and SPF only. I’ve recently joined Pip Box as a subscription box to try some new make up and actually really like a lot of the Primark stuff too which is marked with the bunny.

Lots of M&S make up - own brand and Rosie brand is so that might be helpful too to search...

Towelsareblue · 17/06/2019 18:58

Thank you so much! I couldn't go without foundation, it just wouldn't be fair on the rest of the world sadly!

Try delilah, you can buy it on space nk and john lewis. Also go the cruelty free kitty website. There's lists of all the brands.

FamilyOfAliens · 18/06/2019 07:09

dig deap you will find that the derivatives the product is made from will have been tested on animals at some point during its certification.

Do you have a link for that?

OP, lots of the brands aimed at younger people are cruelty-free: Urban Decay, Illamasqua, to name but two.

Januarybaby2019 · 18/06/2019 07:44

Charlotte Tilbury, Anastasia BH and Hourglass for high end. Barry M, gosh, glossier and sleek for budget (but usually pretty great) products.

Cruelty free kitty website is a great resource.

HandsOffMyRights · 18/06/2019 07:48

I've been buying Superdrug products as am told all of their products (and a few other lines) are cruelty free.

Towelsareblue · 18/06/2019 07:53

Thank you thank you! I looked at Cruelty Free Kitty but only recognised about two of the brands. Trouble is I daren't just try and guess which colour type of foundation to go for, need to see it in the cold light of day.

I was told by a sales assistant in Boots that their no7 range is cruelty free as not sold in China. I also think ELF is ok.

HandsOffMyRights · 18/06/2019 10:35

There are a few ranges in Supedrug (including Barry M) that carry the Vegan symbol: all Superdrug, some Revolution, Gosh and others. The staff are helpful too.

I've extended this to buying all toiletries from Superdrug's owm range. I wasn't sure about toothpaste as have used big brands for years, but it's fine.

They're all on 3for2 at the moment.

HandsOffMyRights · 18/06/2019 10:37

Most of the Body Shops have closed down by me but I did go in one the other day and found some vegan products.

Be careful, as I had I had initially assumed all Body Shop products to be vegan, but this isn't the case.

Towelsareblue · 18/06/2019 12:37

Body Shop are owned by L'Oreal though aren't they? God it's a minefield isn't it

MissMarple11 · 18/06/2019 13:07

L'oreal sold the body shop to a cruelty free company. Cant remember what it was called, think it was south american maybe.

The delilah brand I spoke about earlier, if you phone space nk they will send a couple of samples out to you.

Towelsareblue · 18/06/2019 13:15

Oh really MissMarple that's great to hear, thank you.

I've not used their foundation but I've been quite impressed with the Pixi products I have tried (100% cruelty free and available at M&S)
