how much do you spend on clothes?

I realise this is a bit of a daft question as everyone's circumstances are so different, but I'm feeling in major need of a wardrobe and style overhaul and would like to set myself a budget to work to. I've hardly been spending anything at all lately.

So, roughly, how much do you spend on clothes, accessories, maybe make up etc per month? What does that tend to go on? The occasional expensive item, or more cheaper items? Work clothes or going out clothes? Where do you normally shop? And if you don't mind, for context, what is your rough household income band and how high a priority is spending money on clothes for you, compared to other discretionary stuff?

(and so I'm not asking people for info that I'm not willing to give, we are in the 100-200k total band as a family).

We're lucky enough to be able to afford to be quite relaxed about money and don't have a clear budget generally. But I like a constraint to work to.

I don't buy 'per month' I just buy as and when needed/fancied. The majority of my clothes are from Zara but I have a collection of high end designer clothes coming along nicely.
I won't say how much some of these individual items cost as they are obscene and I'll be called a show off Smile.
I'm consciously trying to move away from 'fast disposable' fashion however and instead of having to buy a new high street jacket every year because last years one looks like shit/misshapen/etc I am getting my sixth year out of a double fronted cashmere Céline coat. Though I know I'm lucky to be in a fortunate position to be able to afford to do this

Why is it showing off? We all just answered a question posed by the OP who is asking specifically about people in her income bracket.
I am fortunate to have some disposable income to spare on clothes each month, I work bloody hard for it and won't offer any apologies for it.

As you get older, excercise becomes more important. I spend less on clothes than on classes. So Pilates x2 per week makes a better difference to the way I look than a new top. It's not turning back the clock, nothing can, but the body inside the clothing is a better shape.

I completely agree. If you are toned and a good weight then most clothes look good on you.

Sorry you see it as showing off. It really wasn't supposed to be.

I wondered about whether to give my own (higher than average) income band. I'd have preferred not to on the whole. But people's answers wouldn't have meant much without knowing their rough income. And I didn't feel I could ask for info I wasn't giving myself.

I actually find all the answers from all different income bands interesting. But the ones closer to mine are probably more useful, and it is not surprising that more people from a similar band answered. Nobody is claiming it is average.
