Service to be a registry office in September. She has asked me to help find her an outfit, no idea where to start looking. Any ideas please?
She is slim, size 10, medium colouring.
She would like an outfit (not a wedding dress) which she can wear for a blessing later this year.
TIA

KristinaM · 24/07/2007 22:45

sorry if this is a stupid question - is she teh bride or a guest?

brimfull · 24/07/2007 22:48

littlewoods

Pannacotta · 24/07/2007 22:48

Sorry, not explained well, she is the bride, its her second marriage (my father died long time ago).
No idea of budget, prob up to £200 or so.
Will try Jaeger, but might be a bit too "tailored" for her IYSWIM, she looks good in soft, floaty fabrics/styles.

and what is her usual style - traditional , casual ...is she floral dresses or jeans and trainers or skirts & cardigans ( aplolgies for massive stereotyping of mid 60s mum )

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 24/07/2007 22:50

jacques vert isvery good

Pannacotta · 24/07/2007 22:51

Her style is good, she wears mainly skirts and tops/cardis.
Buys from M&S mainly Per Una, Minuet Petite (she is about 5ft 4) and John Lewis.

Where can you buy Jacques vert?
There isnt a JV shop here (Norwich).

if it's good enough for camilla!!

Pannacotta · 24/07/2007 22:56

I did like Camilla's outfit, but not sure my old Ma is in quite the same price bracket

do you have a debenhams or john lewis or house of fraser? They often have a jacque vert concession

size 10 , slim 5'4''- should be easy to get soemthing nice. have to say that floaty pastels souunds very queen mum like and a bit of a steroetyped mother/grandmother of the bride look. but if thats teh look she likes then she will feel confortable

KristinaM · 24/07/2007 23:00

woudl she consider one of these worn once shops? dont knwo what they are called...a friend got her bridesmaids dresses from one near us and they had loads of these floaty pastel outfits for MOB

KristinaM · 24/07/2007 23:03

is jarrolds any good?

Pannacotta · 24/07/2007 23:07

Wasnt thinking floaty pastels as such, just not anything too tailored.
Her style is not conventional, she likes unusual prints and colours its just hard to know where to look for something really special. We will try Jarrolds plus J Lewis but was hoping to have some ideas before we look - DS2 is 10 weeks so shopping is not a leisurely past time at the mo....

jarrolds stocks jv appaently. here are some picshere

Pannacotta · 24/07/2007 23:14

Thanks for that, there are a few nice things though they do look a bit granny! She is quite youthful and v slim so was hoping to find here sth bit more dramatic.
Might try and get her to look in Monsoon/Phase Eight....

defo make appointmenst with the personal shoppers in debenhams & john lewis and jarolds of they have one. they often get booked up, esp at the weekends. Its free and you dont have to buy anything

i have used debenhams and john lewis personal shoppers and all were lovely and very helpful

Pannacotta · 25/07/2007 09:21

Thanks Kristina, will do that. Easier than hauling round the shops with a small baby I think...

Take her to Selfridges in London and get them to pick something for her (if there is time to book personal shopper still) There is so much choice there she's bound to be able to get something.

KristinaM · 25/07/2007 15:50

I used the personal shopper in john lewis a few years ago to find a wedding outfit . i wanted to look nice as Dh was the best man but my budget was a bit tight ( well very tight actually) at about £100 for teh whole outfit . I thought she might be a bit snooty about it but she was lovely. she found a dress for about £60, stappy sandles in a lovely pewter colour 25, , a teeny bag embroidered with beads 15 and a shawl thing ? pashmina ? to cover my arms for 15. i thought she did really well to stay near the budget.

i am not a dress person but it was the right colour and style for me as well

i know your mum wont be on the same budget, but just wanted to say how good she was

Charlie999 · 25/07/2007 16:05

Roman Originals? They do loads of sophistocated wedding (and cruise type) gear.

RosaLuxembourg · 25/07/2007 17:01

Coast? My mum got a fab outfit there for a blacktie wedding she went to recently.

Pannacotta · 25/07/2007 21:05

Thanks for all the suggestions, will try J Lewis and othe personal shoppers.
Do Roman Originals have a website?
