How can I add volume to my hair? Because it’s horrible

I think it’s always been horrible - I’ve tried different conditioners and styling in different ways but ultimately it always looks a bit shit. How do people achieve nice hair?
The roots are so flat. I know there must be something that specifically lifts roots but what is the best thing to use?
I am honestly as the point where I feel so ugly all the time I could happily never leave the house again and my hair makes me feel so much worse!

look for 'dry texturising spray'. use near roots (similar to dry shampoo)

Also - actual dry shampoo. I use a bit at the roots even when my hair is just washed (as mine is just too fine and limp, and when clean it sits entirely flat to my head)

Something called 'hair powder' On Clean hair backcomb a little at the roots at the crown, then rub in a tiny amount of hair powder underneath at the roots (not too much or it just feels dirty) Gives it some oomph

I use I think it's by John Frieda, root volume spray, in a blue spray bottle
Works a treat for me, spray on damp hair and blow dry

Guiltypleasures001 · 16/06/2019 17:24

Oh, and dry hair hanging head backwards over the bed if you can Grin

Aveda tonic spray

Dry upside down

Dry shampoo

Back comb

A tiny bit of backcombing and spray with hairspray. My hair looks sooo flat if I straighten it so tend to run my hair through the curlers. I don't section and curl every bit.. I just make it look natural. This means it isn't as flat without putting any product in or teasing.

A babyliss big hair after volumising spray works wonders for me!

Soola · 16/06/2019 17:42

Get some mini crimpers

Littlechocola · 16/06/2019 17:44

Roots by lush is a great treatment

Babyliss Big Hair with Volume mousse.
After dry shampoo and some John Frieda shaping and highlighting balm.
Lottttsssss of volume in my fine, thin, lanky hair.
Worth a try?

Percy & Reed dry volume spray or living Proof dry volume are both good.
Don't overdo the P&R as it can be sticky, spray them then massage to activate it throughout the day. Colab do one too I think but I've not tried it.
Dry shampoo will also work but I have very dark hair and mist of them leave a white residue.

Also, blow dry your roots the opposite direction to the way you wear it.
